FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question: What is the time commitment for our child?

Answer: Teams typically begin the season with 1-2 practices per week, leading up to Opening Day (weather permitting).  Once games begin, teams typically have 1-2 games per week with an occasional practice in between.  A game schedule will be posted on for your reference.

Parents are encouraged to work with their child on baseball fundamentals, as the time with the coaches often just introduces a concept.  Mastery of fielding, pitching, hitting, etc. requires repetitions at home.

Question: What equipment will my child need to provide?

Answer:  Players are only expected to bring a baseball glove, pants, and athletic shoes (cleats are optional).  Many players bring their own bat, but this is not a requirement.  Each player will be given a team jersey & team hat.

Question: Why does Wooster Youth Baseball require masks on its batting helmets?

Answer: The league receives a large percentage of its batting helmets through a grant provided by the Save Our Sight Foundation.  This grant requires the helmets include the wire masks on the front of the helmet to protect the players eye sight and to provide protection from a wild pitch.  This is a security precaution which the league supports through its participation with the grant.

Question: Who can I contact if I have questions or concerns?

Answer: You are encouraged to contact your team’s coach, as they are the direct link between your child and the league.  If you have a question  that extends beyond your team, you are welcome to contact any one of the league’s board of directors.
