Good sportsmanship encompasses many aspects of a person’s
character, the most fundamental being respect.
The good sportsman respects both
their teammates and their opponents as equals. We play with integrity. A win
that does not come fairly holds no satisfaction. We are honest in our dealings
with opponents, because we treats them the way we want to be treated. We are
unselfish in our desire to see all our teammates participate and enjoy the
game. We are humble in our victories, and have the proper perspective on our
losses. In short, the qualities that go in to making a good person are the same
ones that contribute to being a great sportsman.
Respecting
your opponent, as well as your team, coaches, officials and the game, is
paramount to good sportsmanship. The concept of respecting individuals is
easily understood. This is where the Golden Rule comes in; treating
others as you would want to be treated. Respecting your team can be stated
as putting team goals ahead of your own. Good team members also pick
up their teammates when they fail. We work together. We carry each other
through.
The Dunedin Jr. Falcons wants to remind
EVERYONE that we MUST display good sportsmanship at all times while enjoying
this great sport of football and cheer!
