Coach Education

The club strongly supports coach development and education. We believe education increases your effectiveness as a volunteer by enhancing your knowledge of fundamental coaching concepts such as age appropriate training of children, prevention of injuries, and risk management. At the recreational level a coaching license is not required, but the club supports your involvement in the license program. The club will reimburse any CCYSL registered coach for the fee following the successful completion of the course. This is in effect for coach education through a “D-License”.

For select coaches, coaching licenses are mandated in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  To be a registered select team in Kentucky, the coach must adhere to the minimum coaching license requirements. Kentucky Youth Soccer minimum coaching standards for select level coaches went into complete effect on September 1, 2009. The KYSA has a Policy Mandating Minimum Coaching Standards. In support of the minimum coaching standards, KYSA provides the following courses:

US Soccer Youth Module
Five hour course recommended for parents and recreational coaches working with children in the ages of U6, U8 & U10. The course consists of 3 hours of practical field work and 2 hours of classroom theory. CCYSL typically sponsors one of these courses locally at least once a year.

Youth Technical Certificate

Three hour course focused on teaching technical skills players need to execute and play the game. The course consists of 1 hour of classroom work followed by 2 hours on the field and is highly recommended for coaches working with players between 9 to 13 years old as well as parents of players in these age groups. Coaches must have attended the USSF Youth Module course to be eligible to take this course.

US Soccer E Certificate
Eighteen-hour (approximately) course, normally scheduled for a whole weekend. The course consists of theoretical and practical instruction on the teaching of techniques and tactics of small-sided games.

US Soccer D License

Thirty-six hour (approximate) course typically held over two full weekends. The course consists of theoretical and practical instruction on teaching the four components of soccer - technique, tactics, fitness and psychology. Coaches are required to pass two written tests, a oral test, and a practical field test.

The schedule and registration for all of these courses can be found on the KYSA Coach Education Calendar.
