Championship Weekend Arrives for Our HS Soccer League
St Pauls Soccer Association was able to host a boys high school soccer league (The Mid State Soccer League) this Fall in the face of the coronavirus and all the obstacles that were associated with the pandemic.
If not for our fine group of coaches, parents, players, and fans of the players this season it wouldn't have been the great experience that it was, so we want to say thanks to all of those individuals that made this season possible.
Our final weekend saw the Lumberton Gunners become Champions of the Tournament weekend, edging Raeford United in the final. Lumberton had defeated PSA United to reach the finals, and Hoke had narrowly defeated St Pauls 1-0 to reach the championship game.
Lumberton had previously been the #3 seed in the tournament, but came back to take the "championship tees". Lumberton was also the only team in the league that had defeated every other team in the league at least once. Previously, teams had played each other twice before being seeded into a weekend tournament and finals.
Teams had 3 locations that were used in the league this season, with matches being played at the Pembroke Recreation Complex, St. Pauls High School, and Carroll Middle School in Lumberton. A majority of the match play was at the Pembroke Complex and St Pauls, with the tournament weekend being hosted on the St Pauls HS Practice Soccer field.
We are thankful to all the high schools, players and communities that were represented in our boys HS league this season and we look forward to being a part of more soccer in the future with all of these areas.
We would also love to see this league to develop to include other high school teams locally and regionally in the future. Growing the game is important to Elite Academy and our staff, so hopefully in the future we can see some new faces!
