Benefits of Small Sided 8v8 Soccer

Small sided games have been found to be extremely beneficial for youth soccer players and coaches in practice and matches for multiple reasons.  The main benefits are that players get more touches on the ball, which keeps everyone involved.  Also a small sided game environment helps keep players engaged and creatively making decisions on the field, which is a major part of the game.

What exactly are small-sided games?

They are games and matches that are set up in a much smaller space and have less players than a normal soccer match.  In our case, our HS Summer League will be in an 8v8 format on a 90 yard by 50 yard field.  The smaller setup allows everyone to be part of the game rather than getting lost among the typical 11 that are on the field.  It also allows players to learn particular skills or concepts that they can apply when they return to 11v11 formats.

Benefits of small sided matches and games
1.  They are FUN!
2.  Players get more touches on the ball
3.  More players are involved in the outcome of the game
4.  Players learn to make quicker decisions because the games are played in a smaller area
5.  The games encourage creativity
6.  The games can teach a variety of skills, concepts and tactics
7.  Games naturally bring out the competitive spirit in players

Join our small-sided HS Summer League
This summer we have a 10 match schedule for everyone planned in our HS Boys and Girls Summer League!  This league will be played in an 8v8 format, and is a great way for players to continue their development and growth as a soccer player in a relaxed, but fun, competitive environment.

To find out more about our 8v8 League or to get registered players can go to:
https://www.nrfcsoccer.org/Default.aspx?tabid=1346577

The last day to register is May 27th, and the total cost of registration is $40 for the entire summer.  That's literally only $4.00 per match to play, and players will receive a team t-shirt jersey that comes a long with their registration.

Matches will also have officials for each game, and the 1st and 2nd place teams of both the boys and girls league will win championship and 2nd place medals.

If anyone has any questions regarding the 8v8 HS Summer League program, then they can contact the Summer League Director, Will Garcia, at [email protected].

We look forward to seeing all the boys and girls out playing this spring and can't wait to see all the talent that North Robeson has out there!
