How and when will sports teams be formed?

Teams will be formed by the Town of Belchertown Parks & Recreation staff and Volunteer coaches at a coaches meeting held within one week after the registration deadline. The players are distributed among the teams with the goal being to split teams as evenly as possible.

I would like my child to be on the same team as their friend so that we can carpool.

Unfortunately, due to the size of the program, the potential number of special requests and the goal to achieve parity among the teams, special requests for teams cannot be granted. Often parents are able to find someone on their team to share rides with or even find friends on different teams that practice at the same time.  Siblings of the same age bracket are the ONLY guarantee for the same team.

I really liked my child’s coach from last season and would like to have them again.

Unfortunately, due to the size of the program, the potential number of special requests and the goal to achieve parity among the teams, special requests for coaches cannot be granted. Only the coaches and assistant coaches can be guaranteed that their children will be placed on their team. However, you may request to NOT have a certain coach.

Due to family conflicts, I would like my child to be placed on a team where there are no practices on Tuesday or Friday.

The Town of Belchertown Parks & Recreation Department is aware that nearly every child in our program participates in other activities and that parents are chauffeuring several kids to various locations. Unfortunately, it would be impossible to coordinate each child’s schedule while selecting teams and keeping league parity. Therefore, these types of requests cannot be granted.

If it works out that your child really must miss one of the practice days, the coach will understand. Please, notify the coach of any conflicts you may have.

When will we hear from our coach? The neighborhood kids have heard from theirs.

The coaches will receive their rosters at the coaches meeting before the start of the season. Keep in mind that there are often multiple teams of the same age level. If you do not hear from your coach within one week of the registration deadline, please feel free to contact us at 323-0419 or email [email protected]
