Coaching Experience

Nuno started his coaching career at Keith County Day School in Rockford, Illinois where he lead the program to two small school state titles in two years. Nuno is originally from Portugal where he played his youth soccer at the world famous SL Benfica. Nuno played his college soccer at former NAIA/Division III power Rockford College in Illinois and he later played semi professional soccer in the LASA League of New England. Before turning to the professional side of soccer, Nuno spent seven seasons coaching at the collegiate level.

 

Collegiate Coaching

This included Assistant Coach at Coastal Carolina (1988-1992) he helped lead them to three Big South Conference Championships and saw them advance to the NCAA Div I Sweet Sixteen. As Assistant Coach at College of Charleston (1992-1994) where they won two TAAC conference championships and advanced to the NCAA Div I Final Eight. Nuno also served as the Head Coach of the Women's team at the College of Charleston for one season in 1998 where he lead the team to its first post season appearance. He served as Director of Coaching at Trident United, one of the most successful youth clubs in the state of South Carolina. There, he coached teams to two state championships during his three year tenure.


Coaching in Georgia

Coach Piteira came to Atlanta in 1999 to coach the Atlanta Silverbacks professional team. During his two years with the Silverbacks, he guided the franchise to their winning season. Before coming to Atlanta, Piteira coached the Charleston Battery professional team (1994-1998) where he led the club to its first professional National Championship in 1996. In six and a half seasons as a professional coach, Nuno compiled a 92-54 win/loss record. He was the 1995 Atlantic Division Coach of the Year, the 1996 National Coach of the Year and coach of the 1997 Eastern Conference All Star Team. Nuno has studied under soccer greats as Carlos Queiroz (currently Portugal National Team Head Coach), Jorge Jesus (currently head of SL Benfica), and Graham Souness (Former Blackburn, Newcastle).

Nuno Piteira directs all activities on the boy's side at Gol Soccer Academy. Prior to taking this appointment, he has led two of Georgia's top youth clubs over the past ten years. He has coached multiple State Champion teams and has coached teams that represent Georgia at the Regional & National level as well. Nuno is also active in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and has produced players that have represented Georgia at the State, Regional & National level youth teams. Nuno currently serves on both the ODP staff for Georgia and Region III.

Nuno has a background in Education from Coastal Carolina University and holds a US Soccer "A" license, the US National Youth license and the English FA Preliminary Certificate.
