WCPR Tourney Day 4: 15U Coquis, 12U EXIT Realty Inch Closer Towards Finals

Day Four of WCPR Softball Tournament play saw two veteran coaches post their biggest wins ever, but also saw the season close for two more teams.

Softball guru Dan Santiago coached his 15U Coquis to a 5-4 win in extra innings over EWA Hastings, eliminating the division's top seed from the tourmanent in the process. Faith Parks was masterful on the mound, including a clutch strikeout to close out the top half of the last (fifth) inning with the go-ahead run stuck on 3B. Juliane Hermosa ended the game with a fly ball to CF that drove in pinch runner Arianna 'Nana' Pepin for the winning run.

The Coquis now await the outcome of Monday's winner bracket semifinals, where they will face the losing team between Grassland Koehler and SWA Kendall. The winner advances to the 15U championships. The Coquis have advanced further than any Franklin 15U (formerly 14U) team

GSAF Vice President and Treasurer Mike Grumbles saw his EXIT Realty squad chase Bethesda Watkins to the consolation bracket with a 3-0 shutout win in the 12U quarterfinals. Mackenzie Garey kept Bethesda off the bases in five shutout innings to send her team to the winner's bracket seminfinals.

EXIT Realty next plays Saturday afternoon, as they face undefeated top-seed SWA Adair. The team's advancement to the semifinals is the strongest run by a Franklin 12U team since 2010.

Friday night was the end of the road for 12U Franklin Bohn and 8U Franklin Cochran.

Bohn's Franklin Mercantile Deli crew surpassed expectations all season long, but ultimately came up short in a vailant battle with Nolensville Hughes.

Cochran saw his Brentwood Pediatric Dentistry-sponsored squad march to a 13-1 record during the regular season, plus two more big wins in tounrament play. Their memorable run came to a close on Friday, however, after suffering losses to unbeaten EWA Granzow and #3 seed EWA Baldwin. Cochran's team ends the season with a 15-3 record, with the three losses only coming to the aforementioned EWA teams, who play in Saturday's 8U A-Division finals.
