Maryland State Cup

On a cold, overcast day at the Germantown Soccerplex, Bethesda Blue '96 earned a 1-0 victory over seventh ranked MSM Rush '96 in the first round of 16 in the Maryland State Cup. Bethesda Blue '96 scored early in the first half on a half volley by Johannes Hemberg from 12 feet. Bethesda Blue '96 played a heavily offense based game in the first half and had several opportunities to score.

In the second half, MSM Rush 96 battled back with significant offensive pressure. However, the Bethesda Blue '96 defense held throughout the second half to hold MSM Rush 96 scoreless.

Bethesda Blue 96 will face second ranked MSC Magic Green 96 next Sunday at noon. MSC Magic Green 96 defeated Bethesda Blue 96 in the semi-finals of last year's Maryland State Cup on penalty kicks.
