Divisions

Little League allows the local league to set up divisions in a variety of ages and formats.  Generally speaking, the local leagues within our district (MD District 7) discuss the divisions they will offer, in order to maximize inter-league play as necessary.

In Calvert American Little League some divisions are offered in both the Spring and Fall seasons.  Below are descriptions of the most common divisions offered-- please note that the Registration Page will always give you a list and description of the current programs offered.


BASEBALL PROGRAM FOR LITTLE LEAGUE AGES 4-16.

TEE BALL DIVISION GROUP - BASEBALL
The Tee Ball Division Group will be divided into three (3) separate divisions based off the number of participants. Those divisions are Rookie Tee Ball - Boys/Girls and Intermediate Tee Ball – Boys/Girls. For the ALL GIRLS Tee Ball Team REGISTER under the Softball Program. Some divisions may be eliminated based off participation numbers.

1 - Rookie Tee Ball – Boys/Girls (2 events a week)
  • All players league age 4.
  • One (1) Manager and three (3) Coaches.
  • Participants will receive a Jersey and Hat.
2 - Intermediate Tee Ball – Boys/Girls: (2-3 events a week)
  • All players league age 5, 6 and 7.
  • One (1) Manager and three (3) Coaches.
  • Participants will receive a Jersey and Hat.
  • Hybrid Tee Ball/Coach Pitch division.
  • Players league age 6 WITH a prior season of Tee Ball experience. NOTE: Per Little League regulations, there are no exceptions to this policy.
  • Players league age 7 WITHOUT a prior season of Tee Ball experience, at parent request and with League Player Agent approval.
  • Players league age 7 with a sibling in this division, at parent option and with League Player Agent approval.
  • 60-foot diamond and pitching distance at 46-feet
  • ALL GIRLS TEE BALL TEAM offered. Please register under the Softball Program [Tee Ball - Girls]
COACH PITCH DIVISION GROUP - BASEBALL
The Coach Pitch Division Group will be divided into two (2) separate divisions based off the number of participants. Those divisions are Rookie and A (Single-A). Some divisions may be eliminated based off participation numbers.

1 - Coach Pitch:
  • All players league age 6, 7, or 8.
  • Hybrid Coach-Pitch/Player-Pitch division
  • Competitive with end-of-season playoffs (Spring).
  • Option tryouts are held for the Spring seasons to advance to AA/AAA divisions.
  • One (1) Manager and three (3) Coaches.
  • Players league age 7 or 8 who try out AND achieve an acceptable evaluation score may be drafted to AA.
  • 60-foot diamond and pitching distance at 46-feet
  • Participants will receive a jersey, hat and belt.
MINOR DIVISION GROUP - BASEBALL
The Minor Division Group will be divided into two (2) separate divisions based off the number of participants. Those divisions are AA (Double-A) and AAA (Triple-A). Some divisions may be eliminated based off participation numbers.

1 - AA (Double-A) Division:
  • Player Pitch division.
  • Competitive with end-of-season playoffs (Spring).
  • Mandatory tryouts held.
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • Players league age 7 by parent request AND with Player Agent approval AND who achieve an acceptable evaluation score and are drafted.
  • Players league age 8 who achieve an acceptable evaluation score and are drafted.
  • Players league age 9 who are not drafted into the AAA division.
  • 60-foot diamond and pitching distance at 46-feet
  • Participants will receive a jersey, hat and belt.
2 - AAA (Triple-A) Division:
  • Highly competitive – final preparation for Majors-level play.
  • End-of-season playoffs (Spring).
  • Mandatory tryouts held.
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • Players league age 9 who are drafted.
  • Players league ages 10 who request NOT to play Majors
  • Players league ages 10 who are not drafted into Majors division.
  • NOTE: Only players league ages 10 who were not drafted into the Majors division may be called up as replacement players to a Majors team.
  • 60-foot diamond and pitching distance at 46-feet
  • Participants will receive a jersey, hat and belt.
MAJOR – LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL DIVISION GROUP
The Major – Little League Baseball Division Group will be divided into one (1) separate division.

1 - Major – Little League Baseball
  • Highly competitive – pinnacle of small diamond play..
  • End-of-season playoffs (Spring).
  • All Star tournament play OPTIONS (Spring).
  • Mandatory tryout/player evaluation (Spring).
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • All players league ages 11-12 who have previously played in this division.
  • Players league age 10 who achieve an acceptable evaluation score and are drafted. Not allowed in Intermediate.
  • Players league age 11 who achieve an acceptable evaluation score and are drafted.
  • All players league age 12 who have not requested to play in the AAA division.
  • 60-foot diamond and pitching distance at 46-feet (Majors)
  • Participants will receive a jersey, hat and belt.
JUNIOR LEAGUE DIVISION GROUP - BASEBALL
The Junior League Division Group will be divided into one (1) division.

1 - Junior League Division
  • Highly competitive – introduction to big diamond play.
  • Interleague play with neighboring leagues.
  • All Star tournament play OPTIONS (Spring).
  • Mandatory tryout/player evaluation (Spring).
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • All players league ages 13-14.
  • Traditional 90-foot diamond
  • Participants will receive a jersey, hat and belt.
SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION GROUP - BASEBALL
The Senior League Division Group will be divided into one (1) division.

1 - Senior League Division
  • Highly competitive.
  • Interleague play with neighboring leagues.
  • All Star tournament play OPTIONS (Spring).
  • Mandatory tryout/player evaluation (Spring).
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • All players league ages 15-16.
  • Traditional 90-foot diamond
  • Participants will receive a jersey, hat and belt.
CHALLENGER LITTLE LEAGUE DIVISION
The Challenger Division is Little Leagues way of providing new opportunities for individuals with disabilities to enjoy the game of baseball. The Challenger Division is Little League’s Adaptive Baseball Program for individuals with physical and/or intellectual challenges an opportunity to play baseball regardless of their limitations. This affords these individuals the opportunity to experience the emotional development and fun of playing Little League Baseball.
  • The Challenger Little League Division accommodates players ages 4 to 18; or up to age 22 if still enrolled in school.
  • Participants will receive a jersey, hat and belt.
SENIOR CHALLENGER DIVISION
The Senior Challenger Division is Little Leagues way of providing new opportunities for individuals with disabilities to enjoy the game of baseball. The Senior Challenger Division is Little League’s Adaptive Baseball Program for individuals with physical and/or intellectual challenges an opportunity to play baseball regardless of their limitations. This affords these individuals the opportunity to experience the emotional development and fun of playing Little League Baseball.
  • The Senior Challenger Division accommodates players ages 15 and above (no maximum age).
  • Participants will receive a jersey, hat and belt.
SOFTBALL PROGRAM FOR LITTLE LEAGUE AGES 5 - 16

TEE BALL - GIRLS
  • Girls Little League Age 5-6
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • Participants Age 5 with 1-year of Tee Ball are eligible to move up to PonyTail.
  • Participants will receive a jersey and visor.
PONYTAIL - GIRLS
  • Coach Pitch
  • Girls Little League Age 6-8
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • Participants Age 5 with 1-year of Tee Ball are eligible to move up to PonyTail.
  • Participants will receive a jersey, visor, belt and socks.
MINOR SOFTBALL - GIRLS
  • Player Pitch Division.
  • Girls Little League Ages 9 to 10
  • Competitive with end-of-season playoffs (Spring).
  • All Star tournament play OPTIONS (Spring).
  • Mandatory tryout/player evaluation (Spring).
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • 60-foot diamond and pitching distance at 35-feet)
  • Participants will receive a jersey, visor, belt and socks.
MAJOR SOFTBALL - GIRLS
  • Player Pitch Division.
  • Girls Little League Ages 11 to 12
  • Highly Competitive with end-of-season playoffs (Spring).
  • All Star tournament play OPTIONS (Spring).
  • Mandatory tryout/player evaluation (Spring).
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • 60-foot diamond and pitching distance at 40-feet
  • Participants will receive a jersey, visor, belt and socks.
JUNIOR SOFTBALL - GIRLS
  • Player Pitch Division.
  • Girls Little League Ages 13 to 14
  • Highly Competitive with end-of-season playoffs (Spring).
  • Inhouse/Interleague play with neighboring leagues.
  • All Star tournament play OPTIONS (Spring).
  • Mandatory tryout/player evaluation (Spring).
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • 60-foot diamond and pitching distance at 43-feet
  • Participants will receive a jersey, visor, belt and socks.
SENIOR SOFTBALL - GIRLS
  • Player Pitch Division.
  • Girls Little League Ages 15 to 16.
  • Highly Competitive with end-of-season playoffs (Spring).
  • Inhouse/Interleague play with neighboring leagues.
  • All Star tournament play (Spring).
  • Mandatory tryout/player evaluation (Spring).
  • One (1) Manager and two (2) Coaches.
  • 60-foot diamond and pitching distance at 43-feet
  • Participants will receive a jersey, visor, belt and socks.
