Calvert American Little League

Divisions

Little League allows the local league to set up divisions in a variety of ages and formats.  Generally speaking, the local leagues within our district (MD District 7) discuss the divisions they will offer, in order to maximize inter-league play as necessary.

In Calvert American Little League some divisions are offered in both the Spring and Fall seasons.  Below are descriptions of the most common divisions offered-- please note that the Registration Page will always give you a list and description of the current programs offered.

Rookie T-ball
is for our youngest players, boys and girls age 4, and is currently only offered in the Spring season.

Rookie T-Ball is an introduction to the game of baseball and teams are smaller (8 to 9 players) to provide more instruction time.  Focus is on having fun and learning the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing and running.  Generally one practice and one game per week. Players will practice good sportsmanship, respectful behavior, and teamwork. Coaches will teach T-Ball rules with the emphasis of playing the game as a good sportsman.

Spring registration includes sponsor t-shirt and baseball cap.

Intermediate T-Ball is for league age 5 & 6 boys and girls and is offered in Spring and Fall.

The Intermediate T-Ball division is an introduction to the game of baseball to new and second-year players. Players will practice good sportsmanship, respectful behavior, and teamwork. Coaches will teach Tee Ball rules with the emphasis of playing the game as a good sportsman.

Spring registration includes sponsor t-shirt and baseball cap.

The Machine Pitch Baseball division is for boys age 7 - 8 and is offered in the Spring and Fall.

The Machine Pitch division further develops the skills of the young player, focused on the fundamentals of the game-- understanding the basic rules, position responsibilities, defensive plays and teamwork, forming good batting habits, learning the strike zone, bunting, base rounding and sliding.

The Spring season typically concludes with an in-house tournament.

Spring registration includes sponsor jersey, pants and baseball cap.

Little League Baseball is for boys league age 9 - 12 and is offered in the Spring and Fall.  60 foot basepath/ 46 foot pitch distance.

The Little League division is comprised of lower (Minor) and upper (Major) divisions, and just like MLB, players can be moved between the divisions based on demonstrated skill.

The Little Leage division is focused on developing pitching skills from all players; position responsibilities and plays are emphasized. Batting awareness and taking signs are refined.

In addition to a season-ending in-house tournament in the Spring, this is the first opportunity players have to be selected to an invitational or district-level All-Star team.

Players are placed in the appropriate division based on skills evaluation, and may be moved between the divisions based on player assessment, coach recommendation and discretion of the Board of Directors.

Spring registration includes sponsor jersey, pants, socks and baseball cap.

The Junior/Senior Baseball division(s) is for boys league age 13 - 16 and is offered in the Spring and Fall.  They play on a full-sized field - 90 foot basepath/ 60.5 foot pitch distance.

If enough registrations warrant, and other local leagues are offering the same, the older players may be assigned to a Senior team for full-time play.  Regardless of regular season play, players can be invited/selected to either an All-Stars Junior (13-15) or Senior (14-16) team.

Spring registration includes jersey, pants, socks and baseball cap.

Ponytail Softball (coach pitch) is for girls ages 7 and 8.  This division further develops the skills of the young softball player, focused on the fundamentals of the game-- understanding the basic rules, position responsibilities, defensive plays and teamwork, forming good batting habits, learning the strike zone, bunting, base rounding and sliding.

Minors Softball, for girls league age 9 and 10, focuses on developing pitching skills from all players; position responsibilities and plays are emphasized. Batting awareness and taking signs are refined.

In addition to a season-ending in-house tournament in the Spring, this is the first opportunity players have to be selected to an invitational or district-level All-Star team.

Majors Softball, girls 11 - 12 continues with player development at specialized positions.

Players may be asked to tryout and be selected to an All-Stars team at the end of the Spring season.

Seniors Softball, for girls 13 - 16 focuses on advanced position responsibility and batting.  Even the first-time player will develop the necessary skills to be competitive and have fun on the field!

Players may be asked to tryout/be selected to a Juniors or Seniors softball All-Stars team at the end of the Spring season.
