Wooster Youth Baseball, Inc. is gearing up for the 2018 season beginning with its call for player candidates and volunteers. WYBI will be holding player registration on Saturday Feb 3rd from 9am-1pm in front of the Gault Center at Wooster High School. Cost is $60 (Majors, Minors, and Farm) for the first player in a family and $45 for each additional family member. Or those families who qualify for free and reduced lunch will be eligible for a reduced scholarship fee of $30. You may choose either the multi family discount or the free/reduced scholarship, but not both. Scholarships are offered as well on an as needed basis. Wooster Summer Baseball, Inc. (current 7th, and 8th graders) will be holding registration as well to make it easier on our families with children in several programs.
Wooster Youth Baseball at Miller Fields consists of 4 levels of play. It is broken into a Majors division open to players ages 10 to 12; a Minors division for ages 8-10; Farm League/Coach Pitch open to players ages 6-9; and Tee ball for players ages 5-7. (Cost for Tee ball is $35) Ages within each play level may overlap to take into account different playing abilities. Flyers will be distributed at Wooster City Schools. Emails and/or text reminders will go out to all returning players from last year.
Wooster Youth Baseball is chartered with Little League of America, and is the only youth baseball program in the county with that affiliation. Our borders extend to most of Wayne County (click here to view map) to allow for any student, regardless of school district, to play in an official Little League affiliated program.
Along with the annual call for player candidates, WYBI is calling for volunteers. Youth baseball has been played in Wooster at Miller Fields since 1958, and the program has been in existence and serving area youth since 1948. It exists for the players, and it is successful because of its volunteers. WYBI is a non profit business not affiliated with Wooster City Schools or Wooster Parks. WYBI owns its fields thanks to the contributions of Art Miller and his family. We have been able to renovate them, thanks to wonderful sponsors who have donated money and equipment; and, in many cases, time and sweat. All our volunteers - board members, managers, and coaches - spend countless hours down at the fields making them playable and the program possible. We call on our coaches to hold practices, coach games, and do the umpiring of other team’s games during the week.
The motto of our organization is “no man stands taller than he who stoops to help a child”. We are looking for a few individuals who want to stand tall this season, and give some of their time to help our youth.
