SOUTH GATE AZTECS YOUTH FOOTBALL & CHEER

AZTECS CHEER

THE SOUTH GATE AZTECS CHEER PROGRAM HAS DEVELOPED INTO A HIGHLY COMPETITIVE COMPLIMENT TO OUR YOUTH FOOTBALL PROGRAM.
OUR CHEER & FOOTBALL PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED AS A COMMUNITY-BASED, FAMILY ORIENTED YOUTH ORGANIZATION WHICH HAS SERVED THE SOUTH GATE   COMMUNITY FOR 35 YEARS.
WE ARE A FAMILY OF FOOTBALL & CHEER AND TOGETHER WE SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER THROUGH OUR EXTENDED SEASONS.
WITHOUT FOOTBALL WE COULD NOT HAVE CHEER,  AND WITHOUT CHEER, WE WOULD NOT BE A COMPLETE FAMILY!

The South Gate Aztecs Cheer Program has had a number of dedicated volunteer leaders throughout its 35 year history. Today and for the past several years the AZTECS CHEER PROGRAM has been led by SARAH GONZALEZ serving as the Vice President of Cheer along with BRENDA HITCHMAN as the Cheer Athletic Director. We were once just a simple cheer program supporting our football teams on the game field and encourgaing our parent spectators to cheer our players on regardless of the score. Today, our program has developed into so much more with similar game day activity like our local high schools, BUT...we are also highly involved in youth cheer & dance competitions representing organized affiliated youth programs through local, state and national competitions. (Not to be confused with all-star, gymnasium-style programs).

CHEER CONDITIONING & TRAINING ACADEMY

OUR PRE-SEASON CONIDITONING & TRAINING IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!

A "NO-COST" opportunity for new and returning cheerleaders to prepare for another season of learning cheers, sideline dance routines, halftime performances, developing lasting cheer friendships, and preparing our young student-athletes for competitions!

ABOUT THE ACADEMY?

Simply put, conditioning is essential in every sport. Young student-athletes need to prepare their bodies for the movements they'll make during a game or competition. They must warm up those muscles, build endurance, and maintain strength and flexibility. Our focus in our academy is to introduce the elements of cheer, dance & stunt training & conditioning for any student-athlete wanting to come out and see if this is the sport for them; to learn the skills and train like a cheer-athlete. We will run our student-athletes through various stations designed to teach and build the necessary physical capabilities of:

•Cardiovascular training to help increase your fitness

•Resistance training to build muscle strength and address any muscle imbalances that you may have

•Flexibility training to allow your joints to move through their full range of motion

•Speed and agility training are important for sports involving quick changes of direction or speed

•Sports specific drills to ensure your body is ready for all the challenges of our sport!

FOR RETURNING CHEERLEADERS: Many sports are not played all year round, which means that most athletes have a period where they are not training or competing. Whether it be soccer, rugby, netball or athletics, pre-season training and injury assessment is essential in preparing for the next season. Muscle strength, endurance, and conditioning decline during the periods that you are not training or competing. Suddenly going back to the high demands of your sport without adequate conditioning will place your body at risk of injury, as it is not equipped to cope with the challenges of your sport. Your body will need to regain fitness, flexibility, and strength to prepare you for the season ahead.

OPEN REGISTRATION will be available until our teams are filled. There are no tryouts. Through our academy we seek student-athletes who want to be part of and committed to the cheer program, to learn this sport, to improve upon their physical skills and able to commit to the entire regular season: July through December and into the New Year. This is not a program for quitters!
