Mustangs Shutout Cowboys for First Victory

Under picture perfect conditions, temperature in the mid-sixties and not a cloud in the sky, the Mustangs were energized to get their first victory of the season.  The Mustang offense exploded out of the gate.  Hatfield got things going with a quick shot on goal.  Then Kowalski stole the ball from the Cowboys and passed it up to Mechley who fired a shot into the top middle of the goal for his first of the season.  Chambers controlled the middle of the field, constantly snuffing out Cowboy attempts to cross into the Mustang side of the field.  As time was winding down in the first quarter, Kimura stole the ball and fired a shot at the goalie.  The goalie was able to block the shot, but there was a rebound and Schultz stuffed it into the corner of the net to notch his first goal of the season.  In the second quarter, Kimura knifed through cowboy defenders and passed the ball to Hileman who shot the ball wide.  Kimura was ready and he streaked in to punch the ball past the goalie for his team-leading second goal of the season.  A few minutes later, Diemar stole the ball in the middle of the field and passed it up to Hileman.  He dribbled through traffic and pulverized the ball into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.  At half, the Mustangs were up by a score of 4-0.  In the third quarter, the Mustang defense held strong, keeping the ball on the Cowboy side of the field.  Halfway through the quarter, Costello found an opening and blistered a shot at the Cowboy goalie.  Jacobs was in perfect position to stuff the rebound into the back of the net for his first goal of the year.  In the fourth quarter, Brady and Alvord did a masterful job of pressuring the Cowboy defense and taking shots on goal.  Muldoon and Johnston played strong in the middle of the field, never letting the Cowboys cross into our side of the field.  It was certainly the Mustangs strongest performance of the season.  Stars of the game were awarded to Schultz for his hustle, his goal, and his dominating defense, Costello for his terrific play and his excellent assist, and Brady for his terrific defense in the first half and his offensive prowess in the second half.  The Mikey was awarded to Chambers for his unbelievable game on both sides of the field.
