The Richton Park
Youth Athletic Association was founded in February 1990 with a clear mission to
firmly implant in the boys and girls of the community, the ideas of good
sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, camaraderie and respect for teachers, coaches
and authority. To guide them to become well adjusted, stronger, and happier
young adults, both physically and mentally. Community involvement is what binds the Raiders organization.
Research shows that extracurricular activities like the
arts and sports help to develop critical thinking and life skills, and the
concept of teamwork to accomplish a goal.
Evidence has shown that the involvement of young people in sports
produces multiple benefits for them. At
their best, sports programs promote responsible social behaviors and greater
academic success, confidence in one's physical abilities, an appreciation of
personal health and fitness, and strong social bonds with individuals and
institutions. Students who participate in
extracurricular activity programs make higher grades and have better
attendance.
RPYAA is dedicated to providing a well-rounded program that
prepares youth both physically and mentally for the future. Each year, like-minded parents, extended
family and volunteers in Richton Park and surrounding communities dedicate over
300 hours a year of their time to the Raiders program. The Raiders program actively engages over 250
boys and girls from 2nd -8th grade each year for 160
hours of instruction and competition in the River Valley Youth Football League
with ten other teams from neighboring cities.
