Flag & Tackle Rugby Program for Boys & Girls, 2nd-8th Grade

Welcome to CDC Youth Rugby!


We are excited that you are learning more about our rugby program and hope to welcome you soon to the Carmel Youth Rugby family.

Affiliated with the Carmel Dads Club, Rugby Indiana and USA Rugby, we provide opportunities for boys and girls in grades 2-8 to play flag and tackle rugby in a fun environment focused on safety, skill development, teamwork and participation, directed by experienced and USA Rugby certified coaches.

Our club is focused on developing the fundamental skills required to play rugby.  We believe that through development our athletes will grow to love the game and continue to play throughout their life.

2nd-4th Grade Coed Flag Rugby
5th-6th Grade Coed Tackle Rugby
7th-8th Grade Boys Tackle Rugby
7th-8th Grade Girls Tackle Rugby

HEAD COACHES
Coaching is the most critical component of any youth sports program. We are very proud of our, USA Rugby certified head coaches who combine for over 70 years of rugby playing and coaching experience. Our coaches share their passion for rugby while creating team learning environments focused on safety, skill development, teamwork and participation.

SPORTS SEASONS
Rugby is a spring sport. Indoor practices begin in March, moving outdoors in April. Games begin in mid-April and conclude at the end of May.

COST
2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grade Coed Flag Rugby: $100 sport fee to Carmel Dads' Club and $75 fee to Rugby Indiana for Scheduling & coordination of the season, and CIPP registration with USA Rugby (blanket liability policy). Each player receives a t-shirt and rugby ball.

5th & 6th Grade Coed Tackle Rugby: $100 sport fee to Carmel Dads' Club and $125 fee to Rugby Indiana for game referees, schedule and coordination of the season, and CIPP registration with USA Rugby (blanket liability policy). Each player receives rugby shorts, rugby socks and a t-shirt.  Game jerseys provided and stay with the team. New rugby players also receive a rugby ball.

7th & 8th Grade Boys Tackle Rugby: $100 sport fee to Carmel Dads' Club and $150 fee to Rugby Indiana for game referees, schedule and coordination of the season, and CIPP registration with USA Rugby (blanket liability policy). Each player receives rugby shorts, rugby socks and a t-shirt. Game jerseys provided and stay with the team. New rugby players also receive a rugby ball.

7th & 8th Grade Girls Rugby: $100 sport fee to Carmel Dads' Club and $150 fee to Rugby Indiana for game referees, schedule and coordination of the season, and CIPP registration with USA Rugby (blanket liability policy). Each player receives rugby shorts, rugby socks and a t-shirt. Game jerseys provided and stay with the team. New rugby players also receive a rugby ball.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT/OPT-OUT FEE
Carmel Dads' club requires every family to pay $25 or work a in the concession stand for a sporting event.  Carmel rugby operates a concession stand at all home matches, providing several opportunities to rugby parents to volunteer. League commissioner, head coach or team sponsor are exempt from this requirement.

REGISTRATION
Registration for Spring is January 1st through February 21st. Fees increase February 22nd. 

The Refund Deadline is March 1st. 

*Refund Policy – If you register your child(ren) for one of our sports programs and then opt for them not to participate, refund requests are grated AS LONG AS the refund request is made during that sport season’s regular open registration period.  Refunds are NOT given if requested after open registration unless there is a medical reason you child cannot participate.  For more information or if you have questions or concerns regarding this refund policy, please contact the office.

PRACTICE AND GAME LOCATIONS
Practices and home matches are at Prather Park (formerly known as River Road Park) at 126th Street and River Road. Practice days are Wednesday and Friday evenings with games on Sunday afternoons. All teams compete against other local youth rugby programs such as Noblesville, Pendleton, Pike, Westfield, Fishers, Brownsburg and Avon.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
Mouth guard, water bottle and cleats (soccer style)

EQUIPMENT PROVIDED

2nd-4th grade coed flag rugby - CDC Rugby t-shirt and rugby ball

5th-6th grade coed tackle rugby - you will receive a CDC Rugby t-shirt, rugby shorts, rugby socks and a rugby ball. A game jersey is also provided, which stays with the club.

7th-8th grade girls tackle rugby - you will receive a CDC Rugby t-shirt, rugby shorts, rugby socks and a rugby ball. A game jersey is also provided, which stays with the club.

7th-8th grade boys tackle rugby - you will receive a CDC Rugby t-shirt, rugby shorts, rugby socks and a rugby ball. A game jersey is also provided, which stays with the club.

Field Reminders


volunteer opportunities

All families are asked to fulfill a volunteer obligation by working as Head Coach, Team Sponsor, Sport Commissioner, Concession Worker or paying the Opt-Out Fee when they have a child playing in this sport.

HEAD COACHES
Volunteer coaches are needed for every team. Please consider volunteering as head coach when registering your child. 

Head Coaches are asked to attend a coaches meeting before the season starts and will receive rosters, schedule and uniforms. Coaches will sign up for their practice time from available times and locations.

ASSISTANTS AND OTHER NEEDS
Each team needs a head coach, assistant coaches and a team parent.  there will also be opportunities to touch judge, help line the fields and other tasks.  These volunteer tasks would be in addition to their CDC volunteer requirement- out of goodwill for their team.  Your help is greatly appreciated!

SEVERE WEATHER POLICY

The decision as to whether fields are playable rests with the CDC Staff or their representative.

No outdoor practice or game shall begin with a STORM WARNING (Thunderstorm/Tornado) in effect at the start time of said practice/game.

Mandatory 30 minute wait when lightning and/or thunder is observed. Fields must be cleared. This 30 minute wait will restart at each observed lightning and/or thunder.
