Ponchatoula Adult Basketball

League Rules

 

When and Where:

·       Ponchatoula Rec Park (PARD) gym

·       Games will be played on Wednesday nights between 6:00-8:00

Format:

·       5-on-5, full court

·       Game balls shall have a diameter of 29.5in.

·       Co-ed; 2 females for each team must be on the court at all times

·       Two 20-minute, running clock halves (clock stops during the last 2 minutes of each half)

·       Halftime will be 5 minutes

·       7 games of regular season followed by playoffs

·       Teams are responsible for bringing their own basketballs for warm-up. All outside balls must be in a bag at tip off. 

·       No organized practices will be schedule. Teams wishing to practice should do so on their own time.

Eligibility:

·       Participants must be 21 years old.

·       The league may request proof of identification before the start of all games.

·       Participants must not be a current collegiate basketball player.

Scoring/Game Reporting:

·       Each Captain must sign off on the final score in the game log book at the end of each game.

·       Captain must have roster in to book keeper 15 minutes prior to game time. Failure to do so can result in a technical foul.

Fouls:

·       Each player will be allowed 5 personal fouls before fouling out

·       Players may enter the lane on a foul shot ON THE RELEASE

·       Any unsportsmanlike behavior may result in that player/team being suspended/removed from participating in the league

·       If a female fouls out and there are no other females to play, the team must play with 4 players (1 female, 3 males)

·       No hanging on rim will be allowed.

Team Size:

·       Five players must be present to start the game.

·       Any player changes during the season must be approved by the league.

o   Week 3 will be the last week for player additions.

o   Late fees will be enforced for all player additions.

·       PLAYERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY GAME WITHOUT SIGNING THE WAIVER.

·       Insurance is a secondary insurance.

·       If a team needs a substitute, they may ask a player on another team’s rosters to play.

o   The opposing team’s captain must approve of the substitute player before the start of the game.

o   No substitutions will be allowed during playoffs.

Forfeits:

·       A forfeit shall be called no later than 10 minutes past game time.

·       A forfeited game will result in the final score being 30-0 in favor of the non-forfeiting team.

Uniforms:

·       Team Shirts will be provided by the league.

·       Shirts must be worn at all games.

·       Numbers must be visible at all times while on the court.

·       Failure to wear the provided shirt will result in a technical foul. A similar color shirt must be worn and that player will be #00 for the game.

Referees:

·       Referees will be provided for each game.

·       The referees are responsible for calling all violations, and running the games.

·       The referees have final say on all calls.

·       Any questions, complaints, or comments shall be taken up with the referees. Only the team captain may be the spokesperson for his/her team.

Timeouts and Substitution:

·       Each team is allowed four timeouts per game.

·       Timeouts may only be called by the team in possession of the ball.

·       Player substitution is permitted in any dead ball situation.

Overtime:

·       The overtime period will start with a jump ball.

·       Overtime shall be a 2-minute period.

·       The clock will stop for all whistles throughout the entire overtime period.

·       Teams will be given one time out per overtime period.

·       All personal and team fouls carry over to the overtime period.

·       Any subsequent overtimes will be one minute in length with the clock stopping on all whistles.

Playoffs/Seeding:

·       Seeds will be determined by total win/lose record.

·       Tiebreaker will be points for minus points against (margin of victory).

·       Single elimination- bracketed tournament.

Refunds:

·       No refunds will be given. All money will be donated to Brittany Landaiche Memorial Foundation.

Site Security:

·       The deputy on duty will use his discretion in the handling all issues.

·       The deputy, league personnel, and/or PARD employees have the ability to ban anyone causing problems from the league.

Violations:

A.     Unsportsmanlike Technical Violation

Penalty:
Individuals will be notified and placed on probation for the remainder of the season including any and all playoff and championship games for anyone of the following.

·       Violations:
Disrespectful addressing an Official, Coach, Player, Spectator, table worker, PARD employee, security, or league personnel.
Attempting to influence an official’s decision.
Objecting an official’s decision by slamming the ball to the floor, rising from the bench or using gestures.
Allow the game to develop into an action less contest. (Delay Play).
Rough Play
Baiting or taunting an opponent.
Uniform not properly worn.
Failure to shake hands at the end of the game.

B. Unsportsmanlike Flagrant Technical Violation:

Penalty:
Individuals will be notified of a minimum of 1 (one) game or maximum of 2 (two) game suspension(s). This will include any playoff or championship games also.

·       Violations:
Hanging, dunking or grabbing the rim of the goals, during non-game play, or hanging on the rim following a dunk in game play.
Two (2) Unsportsmanlike Technical Violations.
Using profane or inappropriate language or making obscene gestures.
In sighting undesirable crowd reactions.
Player Fighting
Intentional rough play.

C. Suspension:

Penalty:
Individuals will be notified of indefinite expulsion from Ponchatoula Adult Basketball.

·       Violations:
Two (2) Flagrant Technical Violations
Use of alcohol
Indecent exposure
Property damage/ abuse
Non Player Fighting
Multiple instances of fighting/arguing

 All other rules will be based on high school rules.
