Exciting Changes Coming in the Spring of 2019

Newly Created Intermediate Division for Spring of 2019

Exciting news!!  Framingham Baseball League will be introducing a new Intermediate (50/70) division for the spring of 2019.  The Intermediate division is a new program for primarily 12- and 13-year-olds, and potentially some skilled 11-year-olds.  It utilizes a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths.  The division offers a transition for players between the standard Little League field size (46-foot pitching distance and 60-foot base paths) and the Babe Ruth field size (60-foot, 6-inch pitching distance and 90-foot base paths).

The goal of the Intermediate division is to create a stepping stone that will allow younger players to make a gradual move from the Little League field to the larger Babe Ruth field, while having the opportunity to learn the expanded rules and actions (e.g. pitching from the stretch, taking a lead, attempt to steal at any time, etc.) that come with the bigger field.

With the creation of the new division, there will be some changes to FBL’s overall division structure in the spring:

*Limited roster spots available for this age based on each team’s roster size and player’s talent level.

Babe Ruth – All players ages 14 through 17 will play within the Babe Ruth division.  There may be the opportunity for a few 13-year-olds to play in this division based on available roster spaces and player’s talent level.  13-year-old players who are interested in playing in this division must declare this as part of the online registration process.  If a player declares for this draft but is not selected, they will participate in the Intermediate division.

Intermediate - All players ages 12 and 13 will play within the Intermediate division.  There may be the opportunity for a few 11-year-olds to play in this division based on available roster spaces and player’s talent level.  11-year-old players who are interested in playing in this division must declare this as part of the online registration process.  If a player declares for this draft but is not selected, they will participate in the Majors division.

Majors – All players ages 8 through 11 will play within the Majors division.

Instructional - All players ages 8 and under will play within the Instructional division.

More details to come between now and tryouts in October. In the meantime, feel free to email Framingham Baseball with questions ([email protected]).
