Papua New Guinea Rush

7-PAPUANEWGUINEA-RUSH

In another nation powered by the beautiful game, Papua New Guinea Rush is a new addition to Rush Soccer on the Oceania continent. The club, known in short as PNG Rush, is a newer club already earning a reputation of excellence within the PNG National Soccer League (NSL), the top league in the country.

Formerly called FC Morobe Wawens, PNG Rush will join Samoa Rush on the South Pacific continent of Oceania. As an affiliate to the Morobe Football Association co-founded by Peter Seske, the club serves as the top team for various grassroots and division clubs within the Association. In addition to his work with the Morobe FA, Seske is Technical Director for Papua New Guinea Rush and looks to use his connections to both organizations to further develop his players.

In their inaugural season, PNG Rush finished as the league runner-up, automatically qualifying as one of the two teams representing Papua New Guinea in the 2019 OFC Champions League. In the wake of a successful first season, Samoa Rush Technical Director and Director of Rush Oceania Kenneth Kerewi established that the success of the Papua New Guinea club had not gone unnoticed.

Kenneth Kerewi spoke on the benefits to both Rush Soccer and Papua New Guinea by adding a club like FC Morobe Wawens (as it was formerly known),

“After officially announcing Samoa Rush, I had a talk with Peter Seske regarding a potential partnership with Rush Soccer which would foster a huge impact of development, and also create revenues in the platform of player and coach development through organizing soccer clinics, soccer camps and coaching education, as well as having a Rush Soccer expansion in one of Oceania's soccer power nations.”

Kerewi continued on the strategic advantage that this Rush partnership provides,

“The advantage of the partnership between FC Morobe Wawens and Rush Soccer through the Morobe FA will also impact a huge wealth of PNG player development from youth level to professional level, making them marketable for future players’ transfers overseas, and improving on the quality of players on the PNG National Teams at various age levels as well as producing coaches with knowledgeable depth of the game, all through the Rush Way.”

The birth of PNG Rush will strengthen not only Rush Soccer, but also the country of Papua New Guinea by providing the country with a successful club that will continue to compete in the NSL and the OFC Champions League.
