Round 1 to the Panthers!

The Nease Panthers beat rival Ponte Vedra Friday night in the Den in front of a packed house by a score of 57-48.  The Panthers were fueled by a raucous home crowd and disciplined play as they beat the Sharks for the first time in two years.  The Nease matchup zone defense held PV to just 3 first quarter points and the Panthers owned the boards, out rebounding the Sharks 33-14.

Nease was led by Kyle Baidas 17 points, who netted two key 3-pointers in the second half.  The Panthers also got 10 points each from Corban Anderson and Freshman Matt Guzie.  Payton MacDonlad hit a huge 3-pointer in the 4th quarter and also hit two key free throws.  Zachary Fifield continued to drop dimes as he led the Panthers with 5 assists and also chipped in with 10 points and 5 resounds.

Nease shot 12-15 from the Free Throw line, including making 8 out of 9 free throws down the stretch.

The Panthers are back at it this week as District play tips off at Middleburg Tuesday night and then will play host to defending champion Englewood Thursday night (6/7:30).  Nease finished the week with a Friday night home game in the Den vs. Wolfson (6/7:30).
