Miami Rush Player Andre Zuluaga-Silva Called Up to U-16 Boys National Team

On May 10th Andres Zuluaga-Silvia got the call to play for the U.S. U-16 Boys National Team in the Czech Republic.  The international competition was comprised of 3 games against the top players in the age group on May 15th, 17th and 19th. When Andres got the call inviting him to play, he took to the gym to prepare, “I went to training sessions with my team right after I got the call on May 10th. I was very excited. I made sure that I was on time to all my training sessions as I prepared with my team. I ate healthy and did extra work so that I could do the training needed to earn my spot on the national team.”

Andres started playing soccer when he was around 7 or 8 years old. Since he was already involved in football, he decided to try another sport. Little did he know soccer would take him internationally to represent his country as a goalkeeper. However, Andres did not start becoming serious about soccer until he was 11 years old.

Andres has been competing on Miami Rush Kendall Soccer Coalition’s U-15 team. When asked what his favorite thing about playing for Rush is, he commented, “I like the family vibe. Everyone feels like one team and we play as one team. We want everyone to succeed.”

In the future, he hopes to play for a college team and then pro team either in the States or overseas. His ultimate goal is to make soccer his full time career.

The biggest takeaway that Andres got from playing in this tournament was the walk out. “Walking out with all of my teammates, the national anthem playing, all the fans... Wearing a jersey with the badge around my heart representing my country, that was my biggest takeaway,” Zuluaga said proudly. “It is something that everyone should try to strive for, to play for your country.”
