Alumni Highlight - Ken Tribbett

Ken Tribbett, a Colorado Rush alum, has always had a heart for playing soccer.

“I have always wanted to play professionally and with that desire mixed with some of the Core Values I learned with the Rush, I was able to make my dreams a reality”.

The path to playing professionally continued on from Rush to Drexel University, where Ken played for four years. In 2015, Ken began his dream of being a professional soccer player, as his career began with Penn FC (then called the Harrisburg City Islanders). During his first pro season, Ken appeared in 28 games and scored three goals, earning him a USL Championship Rookie of the Year Finalist Nomination. In 2016 and 2017, Ken played for the Philadelphia Union in the MLS, making 23 appearances and scoring three goals. Ken joined Penn FC in the USL in 2018, where he served as captain and started in 21 games. He currently plays on Nashville SC in the USL Champions League where he has appeared in 13 games (all starts) and racked up two goals.

Tribbett’s career has already been an impressive one, but he isn’t planning on settling anytime soon as he shares,

“As I continue my career, my goal is to get back to the MLS and play at the highest level I can. In order to do so there are many things that I need to focus on every day in order to reach that long-term goal. It starts with the mentality in training every day and working hard pushing myself and my teammates to become better. If I can bring a level of tenacity in training it adds something to training to make everybody play at a higher level. There is no substitute for playing in a match and the adrenaline that goes along with that, but if you can add some tenacity to training it is contagious. The more bite there is to a training the more realistic it is, which will only benefit the team.”

Ken has seen a lot of the professional playing field, and he credits Rush for a lot of his success,

“The Rush taught me so much growing up and learning how to play the game in an attractive style. There were so many great coaches each one of them eager and willing to impart their wisdom to me. From simple techniques to more complex tactical situations the Rush set a strong foundation that has allowed me to succeed at the professional level. The Core Values that are instilled at Rush have stayed with me to this day as a reminder to give my all to the game. One of the biggest values that I worked on with the Rush was my tenacity. Off the field I am a very laid back person, but I had to learn how to adapt my personality on the field. To be able to work hard and fight and claw to do everything you can in order for your team to succeed is vital to add to your game.

I am very grateful to have worn the Rush jersey growing up and I attribute a lot of my success based on the core values that were instilled in me from a young age. If you are a young player that has the desire and the belief to play at the next level, whether that be college or pro, I urge you to listen to your coaches and adopt these values as they can propel you further in your career.”
