Understanding Little League’s Residency Requirements

Parkside Little League is a chartered member of Little League International, which means we follow their official rules for player eligibility. For most players (ages 8–12), eligibility is based on where they live or where they go to school.

Who Needs to Meet Residency or School Requirements?

  • League Age 4–7 (Tee Ball & younger divisions)
Kids ages 4–7 may register with Parkside Little League regardless of where they live or go to school. Boundary rules do not apply at these ages.
  • League Age 8–12 (Farm, Minors, Majors)
Players must qualify for Parkside Little League in one of these ways:
    • Their home address is inside Parkside Little League’s boundaries, or
    • The school they attend is physically located inside Parkside Little League’s boundaries, or
    • They qualify under a “grandfather” exception (continuous participation with Parkside since league age 7 or earlier).

If you’re unsure whether your address or school falls within our boundaries, check out this map or try Little League's "League Finder" tool.

Proof of Residency Option 1: Where You Live

To qualify by residency, at least one parent or legal guardian must live inside the Parkside Little League boundary. Little League requires us to collect proof of residence at registration.

Documents must:

  • Show the parent/guardian’s name and current street address, and
  • Be dated between February 1 of last year and February 1 of this year, and
  • Include at least one document from each of three different groups (Groups I, II, and III as defined by Little League International).

Typical examples include a driver’s license, lease or mortgage statement, insurance card, utility bill, or government record. Multiple documents from the same group (for example, three different utility bills) only count as one group.

Important: It is not allowed to “move” into a boundary just to qualify for tournament play. Addresses must reflect a true, permanent residence.

Proof of Residency Option 2: Where You Go to School

Instead of using home address, a player may qualify for Parkside Little League if they attend a school located inside our league boundaries.

To use school attendance, families must provide one of the following:

  • A completed Little League School Enrollment Form, signed by a school administrator, or
  • Official school enrollment documentation for the current school year.

The school must be a traditional, brick-and-mortar elementary or middle school. Homeschools, online/cyber schools, preschools, and sports academies do not qualify for the school-attendance option.

Grandfathered Players

Some players may be eligible to remain with Parkside Little League even if they move or change schools, as long as they have had uninterrupted participation with Parkside since league age 7 (or earlier). This is sometimes called a “grandfather” or Regulation II(d) exception. These cases require extra documentation and, in some cases, formal waivers.

Why These Rules Matter

Little League is built on the idea of community-based baseball and softball. Residency and school-attendance rules:

  • Keep leagues focused on serving their neighborhoods,
  • Promote fair and balanced competition, and
  • Protect teams and leagues during All-Star and tournament play.

If residency or school information is incorrect, it can affect a player’s eligibility for postseason tournaments, so it’s important we get it right at registration.

What Families Should Do

  • For players age 4–7: simply register—boundaries don’t apply at these ages.
  • For players age 8–12: be ready to provide residency documents or a completed school enrollment form.
  • If you have moved, changed schools, or played in another league in past years, let us know so we can help you figure out the best path to eligibility.

If you have questions about residency, school attendance, or boundary maps, please reach out to the Parkside Little League. We’re happy to help you navigate the rules so your player can get on the field this spring.
