Recreation Teams General Program Information

This is the 1st tier of a 3 tier system offered by Portsmouth Soccer Club.  PSC provides a recreational soccer program for children age groups U4 to U12 without regard to skill level.  With playing brackets broken down into U4, U6, U9, U10, and U12 divisions we can provide a place to play for any child.  Players above the U12 level have the option of playing for a PSC Advance or an Advance Recreational team if one is available or in the Recreational 5v5 fun league.

Our recreational program is focused on having fun, teaching the basics of soccer and working on the development of the player. The games are designed to allow all players equal participation with an emphasis on developing ball handling skills.   Utilizing the principles of “We play for the fun of it,” “everyone plays,” and “to play is to win.” These principles are an important and crucial aspect of our Recreation program’s philosophy.  Playing other Recreation teams from around the area , the emphasis is on developing skills and having fun. Scores, win/loss records, and league standings are deliberately excluded. The league was formed to allow all children to have fun while developing soccer skills.

Fees for U4-U12 Recreation Players include a Uniform (includes Jersey, shorts and socks), referee fees,  league fees, insurance/registration fee paid to VYSA (our state association), administrative costs, field and equipment costs, and coach license courses.

Age brackets are determined by the player's birth year and will determine their division for the current playing year. (i.e.: if U8, turns 8)  The U stands for "under the age of". Players who are under the age before the cutoff date are considered age appropriate for the playing year (Fall and Spring).
