The DICK'S SPORTING GOODS PONY LEAGUE WORLD SERIES

GM #7: Yaguate, Dominican Republic 24 Vienna, Austria 1 (F/5)

Caribbean Zone Champion Yaguate, Dominican Republic unleashed its offensive firepower in a 24-1, five-inning victory over European Zone Representative Vienna, Austria. It was the second-most runs scored by a team in a DICK’S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series game, since Covina, California scored 26 in a 26-3 win over Carnarvon, Canada in 1968.

The Dominicans racked up 23 hits (eight for extra bases) collectively in the victory, while nine players recorded multi-hit games.

Yaguate jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on Vienna and never looked back from there. The team also had big innings in the third (five runs) and the fifth (eight runs) en route to a lopsided victory.

Vienna got on the board in the bottom of the third, when Eoghan McGarry doubled to center field and Lukas Norek drove him home on a single up the middle.

Rickendy Martinez was the team leader for Yaguate at the plate, finishing the day 4-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored. Cristofer Cristofer Calderon went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Erick Hernandez hit two home runs, while Daniel Vazquez and Cesar Aguasvivas each had one. For Austria, McGarry was the offensive leader by going 2-for-3.

The victory propelled Yaguate on in the loser’s bracket, as now the squad will rematch Bay County, Michigan in an elimination Game #9 tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET/US. The loss eliminates Vienna with an 0-2 record.
