The DICK'S SPORTING GOODS PONY LEAGUE WORLD SERIES

GM #9: Yaguate, Dominican Republic 16 Bay County, MI 6 (F/7)

Caribbean Zone Champion Yaguate, Dominican Republic used four home runs, two by first baseman Cesar Aguasviva to fend off elimination and defeat North Zone Champion Bay County, MI 16-6 in game nine of the 2018 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pony League World Series.

Yaguate saw near déjà vu from game one in its rematch against Bay County as it jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning. In the inning, Aguasviva hit his first of two home runs, a three run shot with the score 2-0.

However, much like in game one, Bay County fought back immediately, plating three run in both the third and fourth innings to take a 6-5 lead.

This time around, Yaguate didn’t let the large blown lead hold them back and exploded for 11 runs between the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take the 10-run, 16-6 lead. Those three frames were highlighted by Aguasviva’s second home run of the game, a two-run shot, Rikendy Martinez’s three-run home run and Ambioris Tamarez’s solo home run.

Taylor White led Bay County offensively going 2 for 3, while four others contributed a single hit to the cause

On the mound, Jimmy Simo picked up the win allowing just one hit and striking out three in 2.2 innings of relief. Yaguate starter Edwin Pomuceno went 3.1 innings and allowed six runs (three earned), five hits and walked four. Tamarez struck out the side in the seventh to end the game.

Bay County’s Cole Prout took a no decision, allowing five runs, four hits, four walks and struck out three over three innings. Three relievers combined to allow 11 runs (10 earned), 12 hits, one walk and struck out four over four innings.

With the victory, Yaguate stays alive and moves on in the loser’s bracket to face either Host Area Champion Youngstown, OH or Asia-Pacific Zone Champion Taipei County, Chinese Taipei at 10 a.m. ET-USA tomorrow.

For Bay County, its trip to the 2018 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pony League World Series comes to an end with an 8-5 victory over Yaguate, a 12-1 loss to Chinese Taipei and this loss to Yaguate.
