SYA's Tackle Football
part of the
Keystone Youth Football League (KYFCL).
SYA tackle football program consists of 4 teams that will practice at fields in Smithsburg Veterans Park
Teams play 9 regular season games and then participate in playoff games at the conclusion of the regular season.
The tackle football program is for boys and girls ages 5 thru 15 on Sept 1st. (15 year old's must be in the 8th grade)
Home games will be played at Smithsburg High School's stadium (unless the field is under construction in the fall). Away games are within 45 minutes of Smithsburg. Most games are scheduled for Sunday afternoons. Games run from third weekend in August to end of October. Playoffs are first two weekends in November.
Players will need to submit a physical and a copy of their birth certificate before they can start practicing.
Conditioning practice will start in early July with pad practice starting Aug 1st.
There are no residency requirements to participate.

Smurf Football ages (5,6,7) Maximum weight to run or catch the ball is 80 lbs
JV Football (8,9) Maximum weight to run or catch the ball is 105 lbs
Mid Varsity Football (10,11) Maximum weight to run or catch the ball is 130 lbs
Varsity Football (12,13,14,15* 15 year old's must be in 8th grade) Maximum weight to run or catch the ball is 165 lbs

Players are weighed in before each game.
All coaches will be USA football trained and certified and will have completed concussion awareness certification.
Mandatory Volunteer Requirements:
The registration fee only covers about 1/3 the cost to run the football program. To cover the cost for equipment, insurance, playing fields, referees and other expenses the program will rely on registration fees, concessions, gate receipts and one raffle fundraiser. In order to make this program we need parent volunteers to serve as coaches, managers, concessions, equipment and field managers. All families are required to help at a minimum of 3 of our home games for a 2-hour shift per game and to sell 10 raffle tickets. Positions needed will be posted on a sign-up website and will include (gate collection, concession, press box, set up, tear down and other positions.
SYA provides uniforms, helmets, shoulder pads, integrated pants, socks. SYA will collect a $100 equipment / volunteer refundable deposit for the equipment when the equipment is distributed. The $100 in the form of a check or cash will be returned at the end of the season when equipment is returned in good condition and the volunteer requirement of 3 games for 2 hours per game and 10 raffle tickets is fulfilled. Failure to fulfill any of the volunteer requirement or to return all equipment and uniform in good condition will result in forfeiture of the $100 deposit.
Parents will have to provide cleats, undershirts, mouth guards.

SYA Refund Policy: Early and accurate registrations are critical for our sports programs to put together teams, for league registrations, to allocate appropriate resources, find coaches, and create schedules. However, we understand that situations sometimes arise that can prevent players from participating so we provide the following refund policy.
To request a refund for a sport registration fee the participant should e-mail the director for that sport. Refund requests must be in writing.
A $10 administrative fee will be deducted from any refund issued.
If SYA has already incurred costs for that player such as league registration fees those fees will be subtracted from the refund Late registration fees will not be refunded.
Requests must be in writing and made to the director before these dates.
No refunds will be given after the following dates.
Spring Sports including (Spring Travel Soccer, Spring Soccer Academy, Softball, Track & Field) on Feb 28th.
Fall Sports (Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Cheerleading) on June 30th.
Winter Sports (Basketball, Wrestling) on Oct 31st.
