Frequently Asked Questions

Registration

Q1:  When does registration open for the upcoming fall season?
A1: Registration generally opens in March or early April, depending on updates required to launch registration. Look for communications on this site, via email. or on the Stanwood Youth Football Facebook page.

Q2: Why is registration for Stanwood Youth Football higher than other programs like baseball, basketball and soccer?
A2:  Registration is $300 per player with a $50 discount for additional family members for our Fall Tackle Program. It costs SYF approximately $1,000 per player to run the program. We charge less than 1/3rd of the total cost to provide this program to our families and work to fundraise, including grants and sponsorships, to make up the difference. Financial assistance is available for qualified families.

Q3: What information is needed to finalize registration?
A3: A certified birth certificate, as well as proof of residency within the Stanwood-Camano School District (utility bill or report card) are required. Please bring these with you to registration so we can get them to your Team Manager.

Q4: What Equipment is covered in the registration fees and what will I need to provide?
A4: Players will be provided with a helmet w/chin strap, shoulder pads and practice pants at gear issue. As outlined in the registration process you will be required to provide a $200 deposit via check that will not be cashed unless gear is not returned at year end. Prior to the first practice each player will receive a practice jersey for the year. Additionally, prior to the first game of the season players will be provided with game jersey and game pants. Sizing for jerseys and pants will occur during gear issue.

Q5: What equipment are players responsible to provide?
A5: Players are responsible for water at practice and games, mouth guards (with tethers), cleats, gloves and any undershirts they wish to wear. Visors are permitted, but must be clear. Team Managers will usually put out a sock recommendation for uniformity across the team.

Q6: Can we use our own helmet and shoulder pads?
A6: This is permitted, but please bring your gear with you to 'gear issue' so we may inspect it for compliance with league rules.

Practice

Q1: When will practices begin?
A1: Practice begins on the Monday of the week of August 1st. Stanwood Middle School is our main practice facility with some ability for older teams to use the Stanwood High School Auxiliary field depending on availability.

Q2: What are the timing and format of practices?
A2: Generally, practices will run Monday through Thursday from 5pm to 7pm until school starts. Once school begins practices will generally run Tuesday – Thursday 4:30pm – 6:30pm or 5pm – 7pm (team specific). Individual teams do have the ability to pick their practice times, however we highly encourage alignment for the benefit of families with players on multiple teams.

All players are required to participate in 3 days of non-padded practice before practicing in pads. Helmets are encouraged during non-padded practices to get used to wearing them and make adjustments. Regardless of when players begin practicing, they will be required to have 3 non-padded practice days.

Coaches undergo significant training on expectations for practice, including contact vs. non-contact periods and adjustments to practice plans due to environmental factors (heat, snow, rain, smoke). Practice will be held in adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, wind, hail, cold and heat. Under no circumstances will practice be held when thunder and/or lightening is present.

Games
Q1: When are games played?
A1: Jamboree (gathering of all programs and initial 'pre-season' games) are played in mid-august. The first game of the season will generally be the week following jamboree. Games are on Saturdays generally with the younger divisions playing first, following in by the older teams in order.

Q2: Where are games played?
A2: Stanwood Youth Football has a relationship with Stanwood-Camano School District and utilizes their facilities for home games. Generally, this will include either the Bob Larson Memorial Stadium at Stanwood High School and / or the Stanwood High School Auxiliary Field depending on availability.
