NYSA In-Town divisions are made up of the four age-based programs listed below:

TOTS: Ages 3 and 4 -- 6 week clinic

U6: Kindergarten -- 3 v 3 games, 1 practice per week 

U8: Grades 1 and 2 -- 5 v 5 (including goalie) games, 1 practice per week

U10: Grades 3 and 4 -- 7 v 7 (including goalie) games, 1-2 practices per week

Eligibility:

Intown Soccer (Tots (U4/U5), U6, U8, U10) is open to children who are at least 3 years old or in grades K-4. Age cut off dates for tots generally require players to be 3 by the start of the season.
 

TOTS U3/U4: 3-4 years old by the start of the season.

TOTS U4/U5: 4-5 years old by the start of the season.

U6: Attending or entering kindergarten.

U8: Attending or entering 1st or 2nd grade.

U10: Attending or entering 3rd or 4th grade.

Coaches: All coaches of all levels Tots-U14 are parent/guardian volunteers. Age group coordinators will be reaching out to registered families to place parent/guardian volunteers to each group. Tots- 2 parent volunteers per group of 10. U6 and older- 1 head coach and 1-3 assistant coaches. 

Seasons:  NYSA has two seasons:  Fall and Spring. The Fall season starts at the beginning of September and runs through the beginning of November; the Spring season starts in April and runs through the middle of June. During both seasons, games are played on Saturdays and the hours range from 8:00 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Fields:  Currently there are two Newburyport field locations: Cherry Hill (tots, U6, U8, U10, U14) and Cashman Park (U12). The U10 teams travel to Groveland, West Newbury, Amesbury and Merrimac for some games.

Practice:  

Practices for Tots 4/5 (coed) will be held at Cherry Hill from 4:00-4:45pm at Cherry Hill on Tuesdays. Parents or guardians required to stay.

Practices for Tots 4/5 (coed) will be held at Cherry Hill from 4:00-4:45pm at Cherry Hill on Wednesdays. Parents or guardians required to stay.

Practices for Tots 3/4 (coed) will be held at Cherry Hill from 4:00-4:45pm at Cherry Hill on Thursdays. Parents or guardians required to stay.

Practices for U6 Boys and Girls will be held at Cherry Hill from 5:00-5:45 p.m. on Tuesdays (Girls) and Wednesdays (Boys). Parents or guardians required to stay.

Practices for U8 will be held once per week and U10 will be held once or twice per week in Newburyport. The specific times for the weekly practices in Newburyport for U8 and U10 are determined by the coaches of each team based on their schedules and can be held any time between 4:00pm-7:30pm Mondays through Fridays. Please note that the league will not issue refunds for players who have a conflict with their teams' designated practice times, nor will the league switch players to another team based on practice time conflicts.

Fees: Fees for the each season are $105 per player for U6, $105 per player for U8 and $115 per player for U10.  The TOTS Six (6) Week Clinic is $95 per player.  Non-Newburyport residents are assessed an additional $10 fee to participate.

Team Formation / Player Placement: New teams are created each Fall season and typically roll over to the following Spring season. However, new teams may be created in the Spring season due to changes in enrollment levels or competitive balance issues.

Tots teams are non-competitive and flexible.

U6 level teams do not typically require competitive balance due to the nature of the games and age/skill of the participants.

U8 and U10 level teams are balanced using the following aspects:

Soliciting feedback from coaches on player ability.

Balancing number of players from different grades and ages.

Requests for player placement are highly discouraged but occasionally allowed due to extenuating circumstances as long as it does not negatively impact competitive balance. Please contact your level coordinator with questions.

Using "absentee" coaches that are listed as coaches but do not actually coach to manipulate rosters is not allowed.

Uniforms:  Uniforms are not part of the registration fee and need to be purchased separately. Please check our uniform page with information on purchasing a uniform.

Tots players are NOT required to purchase any sort of uniform.

Equipment:  ALL children participating in an NYSA program are required to have the following basic equipment: Shin guards, regulation soccer ball appropriate to each age level

Soccer cleats are required for U10 and recommended for all levels. Football, lacrosse, and baseball cleats with center toes are NOT allowed.
