FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Who can cheer for BCCA?
*BCCA is composed of cheerleaders’, girls and boys.
*Football: from ages 5-13 as of September 1st, current school year.
*Basketball: from ages 5-17 as of September 1st, current school year.
*Cheerleaders MUST be a resident of Barrow County and are required to present a
copy of a birth certificate and utility bill.
*Out of county residents will be charged a $25 fee per cheerleader.
2. How are squads divided?
Football: BCCA tries to divide cheer squads by the cheerleader’s age and cheer experience. Squad splits will not occur until teams are finalized. At which point, cheerleaders will be assigned to a squad based on available teams and not based on the school that they attend. Your cheerleader is not guaranteed to cheer for a team composed of players the same age as the cheer squad
Basketball: BCCA tries to divide cheer squads by the cheerleader’s age and cheer experience. Squad splits CAN NOT occur until basketball teams are finalized by the Barrow County Recreation Dept. At which point, cheerleaders will be assigned to a Barrow County squad based on availability of teams. Your cheerleader is not guaranteed to cheer for a basketball team composed of basketball players the same age as the cheer squad due to basketball and cheerleader participation.
THERE WILL BE NO SPECIAL REQUESTS. ONLY SIBLING TRANSPORTATION ACCOMMODATIONS CONSIDERED, NOT GUARANTEED.
3. When can practices start?
Football: Practices will start in August with mandatory practices. In July coaches may hold non mandatory conditioning practices.
Basketball: Practices will start once BCCA has been notified by Barrow County Recreation Department of the basketball program’s schedule. Expected start time will be in November.
PRACTICES WILL NOT START UNTIL 6PM.
4. Does the cheerleader have to be in full uniform to cheer during the game?
*Every cheerleader MUST be in full uniform to participate at games.
This includes BCCA issued shell, skirt, bloomers, socks, bow, shoes, and pompoms.
*Absolutely NO jewelry of any kind and NO gum allowed.
*NO long or acrylic nails are allowed.
Only neutral colored or team colored nail polish will be accepted.
5. How long are practices allowed to be?
Practices are allowed up to three times a week and held for up to 105 minutes. Practices are only allowed Monday-Friday, starting no earlier than 6:00pm. The length of practice and days of practice per week is up to the coach’s discretion (or the boards as needed). Please note once games start practices are subject to change.
6. When and where will pictures be taken?
Pictures will be completed by Teams N Action. Time and location TBD.
7. Where are practices to be held?
Practices will be held on recreation center grounds or pre-approved practice fields. NO practices are to be held on private property.
8. How long is the season?
Football: The season starts in August and concludes at the end of October. Regular football season games begin in September and end in October. Depending on the team you’re assigned to, your cheerleader’s season may be longer if the team reaches the playoffs.
Basketball: The season starts in November and concludes in the beginning of February. Regular basketball season games begin in December and end in February. Depending on the team you’re assigned to, your cheerleader’s season may be longer if the team reaches the playoffs.
9. Can parents order shirts?
BCCA issued roster shirts will be available for purchase and will be ordered as a group. Additional spirit wear will also be available. Please be aware, purchases of these items are part of BCCA fundraisers. Our spirit wear store is online only. We will no longer be accepting cash or checks for these purchases nor will we accept paper order forms.
10. Can the girls wear their uniforms to school?
BCCA encourages the girls to wear their uniforms on Friday spirit day for their schools. However, it is up to the parent’s discretion and the school dress code policy.
11. Does BCCA do an end of the year banquet?
BCCA is doing a joint end of the year banquet for all BCCA cheer teams. Additional funds can be earned based on BCCA approved fundraising contributions for individual team banquets. BCCA provides a trophy for each cheerleader.
