What is the cost to play club soccer?

The cost per player is determined usually within a month after player registration and finalization of the team roster in late June. A budget for the fall season is established for each team that includes all the necessary expenses (tournament fees, coach expenses, referee expenses, state soccer association fees, etc.). The per player fee is determined by dividing the team budget by the number of players on the roster. The budget for each team will vary due to factors such as the number of players on the roster, number of tournaments each team decides to attend,and the level of play (Division 2 or 3). Cost typically ranges from $450.00 to $650.00/player for the fall season.


How much travel is involved?

Each team will play a schedule of games against other state teams in their age bracket (commonly referred to as “state games”) and 2-4 weekend tournaments (3-4 games per tournament weekend) during a fall season. A state game schedule will include home games in Decatur and away games across the state—as close as Huntsville and potentially as far away as Mobile. Expect to have 6-8 state games during a fall season.  Most teams will play in 2-4 tournaments during the fall. Our club hosts a tournament in Decatur on September 18-20, 2015, and other cities such as Chattanooga, Birmingham, Auburn, Nashville, etc. host tournaments that may require overnight travel.


In general, travel varies among teams based on age and the level of the team. U9 and U10 teams typically travel within the North Alabama region with the exception of one tournament. U11 and above will travel throughout Alabama and may include 2 tournaments with overnight stay.


When does the season start and end?

Our teams typically start coming together after Fourth of July weekend for practices. Most games start mid-August, and the fall season runs through the end of October through mid-November.


Where are practices?

Decatur based teams:
Practice in Decatur at Jack Allen Sports Complex (near Cedar Ridge Middle School in southwest Decatur) and Spirit of America Soccer Fields (at Pt. Mallard). These are two of the top soccer facilities in the Southeast.

Huntsville based teams:
Practice in Huntsvile. Location is determined byt Huntsville City and may change from one season to the next.

Madison Fields:
We also have a field in Madison City if needed to help centralize travel for combined teams.


How often do teams practice and play?

Teams typically practice 2-3 times per week. A weekend tournament will typically involve 3-4 games split between Saturday and Sunday. State games will be scheduled across the mid-August to early November timeframe. If both teams are local to North Alabama, a game could be played on a week night and might take the place of a practice time slot. If one of the teams has to travel a long distance, then the game will likely be scheduled for a Saturday AM/PM or Sunday (afternoon) and could take the place of a Saturday practice date (if applicable). Unofficial practice games (scrimmages called “friendly games”) may also be scheduled in lieu of a practice against local teams or other RCUSC teams.


Is there a cost for player uniforms?

Yes. Cost ranges from $135.00 to $195.00 depending on what is purchased. Players are required to purchase 2 shirts, 1 pair of shorts, and 2 pairs of socks and 2 practice jerseys. We typically get 2 years use out of uniforms. Optional articles such as backpacks and RCUSC spirit gear (t-shirts, caps, sweatshirts/pants, etc.) will be available to order starting around registration in late June.
