Franken Named All-American by USILA

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - On Thursday morning the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) announced their 2019 All-American teams. Among the honorees was Messiah senior midfielder Joseph Franken. With an Honorable Mention honor, Franken becomes the first Messiah men's lacrosse All-American since 2007 and is the ninth even Falcon to claim the national honor. After a stellar junior season last year, Franken saved his most successful campaign for last with a career-high in goals (49), assists (22), and points (71) during the 2019 year. One of the Falcons' many offensive threats, Franken tallied at least two goals in 16 of Messiah's 17 games this season while netting 10 hat tricks. On two occasions Franken netted at least five goals in a game. The first was a five-goal, two-assist performance against Southern Virginia in mid February at home. He then one-upped himself with a season-high nine points on six goals and three assists against Stockton on the road on Apr. 16.Over the course of his four-year career, Franken etched his name in the Messiah record books. He currently sits seventh in program history in both goals (118) and points (177) while placing eighth in assists (59).As mentioned, Franken becomes the first Falcons with an All-American honor since Andrew Collins was named Honorable Mention in 2007 on attack.This season the Falcons finished the regular season with a 9-8 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the conference, earning the second seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament.
