Young Honored As NFHCA All-American

BROCKPORT, N. Y. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its DIII All-American Team on Tuesday afternoon as senior forward Jennie Young received a First Team selection. Young, after claiming MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Year and earning an NFHCA All-Region nod for her efforts during the 2021 season, becomes the first Falcon to receive an All-American accolade since the 2018 campaign.

Young started all 20 games for Messiah, recording a career-high 11 goals while dishing out eight assists, tied for the conference-best. The senior forward's 30 points was tied for the team-high mark (Makayla Malcolm).

On senior day, Young contributed a three-goal performance in a 6-1 home victory over Eastern University (Oct. 17). The three goals were a career-high mark in a single game for the senior forward. Young also contributed two crucial postseason tallies, scoring a goal against Widener (Nov. 6) in the MAC Championship Game and adding a tally in an NCAA First Round matchup against visiting Stevens Institute of Technology (Nov. 10).

The All-American announcement is a fitting end to a successful playing career at Messiah for Young. In addition to being named First Team All-MAC Commonwealth for the 2021 season, Young received an All-MAC Commonwealth Honorable Mention during the 2019 campaign. Throughout her four-year playing career (2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic), Young accumulated 17 goals and 16 assists for a total 50 points.
