Will my child play with kids in their own grade?

Teams are put together based on birth year, not grade. There are no exceptions. Players are occasionally permitted to play up but that is based on skill and the opinion of the coach, not because they want to play with friends. Players are not permitted to play down. These are SAY rules. 

When does the season begin?

The season begins in early August with practice. Practice is determined by the coach but is typically 1 night a week for Swarmers (Birth Year 2014), and Passers (Birth Year 2013 and 2012.) For Wings and above (Birth Years 2011-2007) there are typically 2 practices a week, BUT that is determined by the coach. 

Where will practice be held?

Practice location is still TBD but will be somewhere in the Colerain, NCH, Mt. Healthy area. 

When are games typically scheduled?

Games are typically on Saturday at various times. Most of the time they are mid to late morning, but that is not guaranteed. There are typically 2 weeknight games as well through the season. 

When do regular season games begin?

A typical fall Say schedule goes from late August until the end of October. If a team finishes toward the top, there is a post season tournament for the area. If a team finishes in the top two of the area, they advance to the state Say tournament held in November. The schedule does not get released until mid-August. This is a time consuming process as OLG will be playing in Northwest SAY. There are lots of teams and lots of logistics to work out. 

What about Covid19?

With the uncertainty of the COVID19 situation, there are still questions about the timing of the fall season. There will be more answers as time goes on. 

Can my child play with OLG if they already play on another soccer team?

Players who already play on a SAY team in the same area are not permitted to play on a second team in that same area. Example, if Suzie plays for Monfort Heights and wants to play for OLG as well, they are not permitted. If Suzie plays for another SAY organization, they are permitted. 

Players who play select soccer are permitted to play SAY soccer as long as their SAY coach is different from their select coach. 

Who will be the coaches for my child’s age group?

Coaches are all volunteers from parents or family members of players. Please consider whether you might be willing to help coach a team. Coaches will need to be VIRTUS trained per OLGAA rules. This will cover the SAY requirements for background checks.
