Boyden Running Club History

Boyden Running Club began in 2007 and was created by Fiona Murphy.  She figured that around 20 students would sign up and much to her surprise she had almost 100.  Each session has seen at least 100 students.  This session will mark our 20th session of Running Club.  We hold sessions in the Fall and the Spring.  Each session is 4 weeks and students learn the basic skills to running including stretching and cool-downs.

Running Club is held on 1 day a week and the program has evolved.  We have added music during warm-ups, obstacles on the running course, and music on the course to help inspire our young athletes.  A major part of the programs success is the dedication of our parent volunteers that come out each week to help encourage and keep our students safe during the program.  We have come a long way since the early days of running up and down Jason's Path and having to have volunteers yell "Car" to keep students safe.  Our new course keeps everyone on the school grounds and pool parking lot which is closed while we run.

We now have runners that have participated in Boyden Running Club at Walpole High School and many of them have chose to run Cross Country, Winter Track, and Spring Track as well as many other various sports.  Fitness is a requirement of every sport and we strive to instill that quality in our young athletes at a young age to help them succeed throughout their athletic careers.
