Wrap-Up of Game #2

Patriots Parents

Outstanding performance in Sunday’s game!!!
Another great team performance this week.
- Our offense ran for another 2 TD’s, and converted on 1 of the extra point attempts (outstanding!!!)
- Our defense also held our opponets to just 1 score all game long
   - Fantastic job to everybody

Game Result:
Patriots: 13
Ravens: 6

What went well:

Running plays:
Our running plays continue to get better and better.
Our exchange timing between the QB’s and the RB's was much improved, and our RB’s are getting faster & faster moving of the hand-off and turning up the field.
(Great job QB’s & RB’s)

Passing:
We also tried a little passing this week (One play was completed for about 5 yds - awesome!!).
We'll start working on some passing in practice, and see if we an incorporate some passing plays in our playbook.
(Great Job QB's and WR's)

Run & Pass Defense:
Lastly, our defense played unbelievable in this game. We stopped our opponents on almost every run play for little or no gain. And even on the couple of plays that got by our initial line of defense, we were able to run down the RB and pull his flag - except for the 1 play that went for their only TD of the game.
(Great job defense – both squads)

What we can work on:

Passing plays:
We haven't really worked w/ the kids on passing in practice yet
- We'll include some passing drills in this week's practice, and include some passing plays in the game playbook
- The main goal wil be to create "safe" throws to make, which hopefully won't result in turn-overs

Keeping our "home" positions on defense:
As stated above, our defense played unbelievably well in this game. The only item I saw throughout the entire game was the 1 TD that got by us at the start of the 2nd half. Now I know the player that ran for this TD (he was on a team I coached last fall), and he is unbelievably good - most likely a future NFL player. But he was able to get through because he was able to get our defense to over committ and get drawn out of their "home" area on the field. We've been talking to the kids about our defensive strategy, playing as a unit (as opposed to individual defenders), we'll keep reinforcing it at practice again this week. It's all about adopting that "team" mindset, and having them be able to trust in their team mates to work together.

But, we want to stress that the kids played extremely well in this game,
and we were very proud of every one of our players.
(Fantastic job to everybody – the Patriots are 2-0!!!)
