FAQs

What is the NWGYFL?

The North West Georgia Youth Football League (NWGYFL) is the name of the Youth Football League that the Acworth Warriors play in. The League is made up of 17 youth football associations throughout Cobb, Cherokee, Paulding, Douglas & Fulton Counties.

Acworth is one of founding members of the NWGYFL.

Will my child play with kids his own size, weight and experience level?

The Acworth Warriors offer two divisions of play. There is an opportunity to play football at Acworth for every child regardless of their previous experience, size, or athletic ability.

If your child has ever expressed an interest in playing the game of football, but you think they have waited too late to start, they will now have the chance to play with children of similar experience and skill. Players will no longer have to worry about trying to compete against other children who are bigger or who have many more years of experience. Children who have previously played football and found themselves on the sidelines on game day watching others play will now have an opportunity to play on Saturday. Every player will now be rewarded with an opportunity to play on Saturday regardless of their size, experience, or athletic ability. Experience has demonstrated that children playing against children of similar ability make the game a lot more enjoyable for everyone, especially the children.

Acworth will field teams in the NWGYFL Competitive League (which is designed for more experienced players) as well as teams in the NGYFL Instructional League (D-2) which is designed for players who are new to the game or have less experience. Teams in the Competitive League will only play against other Competitive League teams, and Instructional League teams will only play against other Instructional League teams. Instructional League teams will be available in the 5/ 6, 7/ 8, 9/10 and 11/12 age groups.

During the first week of practice, our coaches will evaluate each player and place them on the appropriate team based on their skill level. If you have a child who wants to play football, the Acworth Warriors have a team for them and a division for them regardless of their size, experience, or athletic ability.

Not every park will be able to offer Instructional League play. An important consideration before registering to play at any park should be an understanding of the ability of the park to form teams in the Competitive League and Instructional League.

To determine what team your child would play on please review the following chart:

If my child is too heavy, can he move up a weight class?
Prior to making weight, a player may move up in weight to play with older more mature players.

We just had our first scrimmage and I do not like the way the coach is doing his job, may I change teams?
After certification (third Sunday in August) no player may change teams. Prior to that date, talk to the Association President and Athletic Director about changing teams.

May my 6th grader play Middle School football and NWGYFL football?
No player in NWGYFL may play on any other team.

What is the Minimum Participation Rule?
Each football player on a D-1 roster who has not missed any practice during the prior week and is not injured or under discipline by the head coach shall play a minimum of eight (8) plays a game. This includes playoff games and the Super Bowl. Players on a D-2 team shall play a minimum of twelve (12) plays a game. The definition of Discipline is left up to the individual Associations. Individual players are put on the discipline list at the discretion of the Head Coach and Association President.

What time are games?
There is no standard times for games due to the fact that the League must try and accomidate D-1 & D-2 Games from all the different associations. Check the NWGYFL website at www.nwgyfl.com for game times.

Why do I have to pay an entrance fee to watch my child play?
All the Associations in the NWGYFL are volunteer based but we all have expenses. On game days we all have to pay the officials. Parks use the gate fee to help offset the cost of officials, it is considered a donation. It costs around $250 to pay the officials for each game.

How does the weigh-in work?
Each player, alphabetically, enters the weight room, states their name and number (They must have their game jersey on or in hand) and steps on the scale. The weight commissioner or viewing coach for the other team says OK then the player leaves the room. If a player is overweight then they may, with the parents permission and with the parent present, strip down to their boxers or shorts and see if they can make weight. Your Head Coach knows how to handle the situation

How do I get involved?
Sign your child up, volunteer, stay active, and stay positive. Board of Director elections are at the end of every season.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our President or Athletic Director.
