All too often children with special needs have a difficult time finding an athletic environment structured to their abilities.
Bridgeport Charter Township Parks & Recreation Department is proud to have the Frank N. Andersen Recreational Complex, a universally accessible sports complex. This complex provides a universally designed facility unique to the area. Thanks to it synthetic-rubberized surface, this complex provides a level playing field where children and adults with varying disabilities, whether physical, mental, emotional, or otherwise can play, hit, run, catch and kick just like the best of them.
This complex also features support facilities such as a new accessible parking lot with an increased number of handicap parking spaces, a specially designed accessible family-style restrooms, and almost a mile of 8 ft. wide accessible paths throughout the park designed to link the features of the complex together other amenities within Liberty Park.
The Frank N. Andersen Recreational Complex will be home to the Great Lakes Bay Miracle League. The GLBMLhosted its inaugural season of baseball starting with Opening Day on Saturday, June 4, 2011.
