ASA Info Page

Philly Ad Club Softball is an ASA co-ed, slow pitch softball league.  On this page, you'll find info about ASA, notes from ASA on insurance, bat guidelines, etc.

Notes from our ASA rep

Please note that if you play on a Philadelphia Parks & Recreation field or any other field permitted by Parks & Recreation,  you must provide proof of ASA registration in order to be issued a permit. Recreation employees will be notified of your registration upon complete payment of all fees. (In lieu of this you must present a liability insurance policy in the amount of $5million covering the city , the department and its employees)

A FEW QUICK NOTES

1 – rules in the ASA rule books are the official rules of the ASA and must be used when playing in an ASA sanctioned tournament (unless specified)

2- When playing in local leagues during a season any local rule supercedes ASA rules

3- use ASA registered umpiresfailure to do so negates the liability insurance coverage provided the city which could lead to loss of your permits for fields.

Re :  ASA insurance (please see League Director sheet for notes re: umpires)

In order for any adult softball team to obtain a permit at any field permitted by the Department of Parks & Recreation that team/league must provide proof of registration with the ASA.. This proof is in the form of team cards received upon registration. (Sites will also be notified by John Muller when the league registers). In lieu of ASA registration a team may show proof that they have their own liability insurance in the amount of $5 million covering  the City of Philadelphia , Department of Parks & Recreation and its employees.

NO PERMITS ARE TO BE ISSUED PRIOR TO A LEAGUE/TEAM REGISTERING ASA

The ASA has purchased liability insurance in the amount of  $5 million dollars which covers the City , the Department and its employees, and league directors against any claims arising from injuries during softball games and practices.

This insurance is not accident insurance – it is up to each league/team or individual to have their own if they wish. Brochures are provided at registration with policies offered by Bollinger. There are also other types of insurance available if desired – individual player (youth) ; Director & Officer Liability ; Crime Insurance ; Equipment Insurance. Information on these types of insurance are distributed to the league directors – in the event you are unable to locate them they may be found by going on the Bollinger website

Broken windows (house & car) are handled by Bollinger on a case by case situation. Any claim should be forwarded to John Muller immediately and include any and all pertinent info. (Date & time of incident , league, team and field involved , what window was broken) In the case of an automobile include the make, model and year and name , address and phone # of owner). Again there is no guarantee these will all be paid – I have no idea as to the criteria used by Bollinger. A 2nd option for leagues is to contact Brian Kownacki at 215-334-3942 who will provide a quote for the purchase of such insurance. (Thanks to John McBride for the info) As of 2014 broken windows in parked cars will not be covered by Bollinger.

In the event of an injury it is the responsibility of the individual or team manager to file a report with a Parks &  Recreation employee at the site immediately. (If it is on a weekend or no one is there it must be filed the next working day) If the injury occurs on a school site permitted by the Rec. Department report the incident to the employee who issued the permit.

The site supervisor should forward any accident info to John Muller or Duck McDonald immediately so that we can notify Bollinger.

*In the past few years we have been “surprised” by a number of lawsuits we have had dropped on us of which we had no reports , some the fault of the player or manager and some the fault of the leaders. It has made for quite a few awkward and embarrassing moments on our part and has led to Bollinger threatening not to represent us in such cases as us not having reports on file so please follow procedure.
