SENIOR COURT IN SESSION; ALL RISE PLEASE!

Nease completed regular season play on Friday evening.  Senior Night would represent the last of a seven game home stand.  Creekside came into the game hoping for some redemption of sorts. In December, Nease went on the road and defeated Creekside 47-39.  The Lady Panthers, ranked #8 in 6-A classification and undefeated in the ‘Den’, was looking to finish off the season on a 10 game-winning streak. The night would belong to four special seniors (Madison Crawford, Savannah Gomes, Sydney Gomes and Allison Fifield).  Prior tip off, the seniors were introduced and honored, while being escorted by their respective parents/family members.

Creekside was faced with the arduous task of defending a confident and explosive Nease squad.  On Senior Night, the Lady Panthers were locked and loaded for the task at hand and the Lady Knights would languish most of the night. Nease scored the first basket off a steal and layup by Syd Gomes.  The visitors followed with a trey, which Nease countered with 2 consecutive shots from behind the arc by C. Robinson and Fifield.  The quick 10-0 run by the Lady Panthers, left the Lady Knights reeling and down 12-3.  Nease continued to pounce and by the end of the quarter, the Lady Panthers had put up twenty-eight points to extend the lead (28-9). The senior duo of Syd Gomes and Alllie Fifield, combined for 23 of the 28 points produced in the period, with 14 and 9 points respectively.

In the second quarter, the backcourt of Syd and Cami, scored all 17 points for Nease. As the clock ticked down to intermission, the Lady Panthers had doubled up the Lady Knights (45-22). The next eight minutes after half time would be no different than the previous quarters.  Nease scored 18 points in the period, with Syd (8 pts.), Cami and Allie (5 pts. each), leading the way.  Operating with a running clock in the final quarter, Nease finished off Creekside with a 12-2 final period behind Allie (8 points w/ 2 treys) leading the charge.  If this was a game of chess, checkmate would definitely be the call.  The Lady Panthers (21-3) finished off regular season play with the Dub ( 75-41), to remain undefeated in the ‘Den’ (14-0).

The seniors were at their best on the night.  Energized by a supportive crowd, family and friends, the ladies set out to ‘do work’.  Three of the four seniors scored and combined for sixty-one of the seventy-five total team points.  The remaining fourteen points were scored by junior guard Cami Robinson.  Co-captain Syd Gomes was electrifying, as she poured in 35 points, almost single-handedly outscoring Creekside. In addition, the ‘Matrix’ had 7 steals , 4 dimes and secured 7 rebounds.  Allie Fifield , AKA ‘Alley Cat’, asserted herself by producing a double-double. The  co-captain scored 22 points, including 4/7 from behind the arc.  Savannah ‘Lady Spice’ Gomes added 4 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.  Madison ‘Mad Dog’ Crawford did not score, but made her presence known through physical play and hustle to round out the senior quartet.

As stated before, this night truly belonged to the seniors and everyone in attendance had to take notice.  With the regular season in the book, Nease will continue to look for senior leadership during the upcoming post season.  The Lady Panthers (#2 seed) will host District 4 (6-A) tournament play beginning on Tuesday, 02/01.  The first game will match Atlantic Coast and First Coast at 6:00, with Englewood vs Nease to follow at 7:30.  It is now time to get PAID.  The rewards for all the hard work, dedication and sacrifice.  Earned Not Given!!
