FAQ

When are Tryouts for the Basketball Team?
At the beginning of the school year, Coach Bailen will have an informational meeting with parents and prospective players.  He will outline the workout program and the tryout schedule.  Keep looking for announcements from Nease and you can return to this site or the Nease Athletics website for more information.

What Paperwork do I have to fill out to try out for the team?
Paperwork can be found through the homepage of this website or from the forms page on the Nease Athletics website.  In addition to basic background information, you will need a sports physical from your doctor.  And finally, each participant must complete an online concussions course listed on the forms page.

What Paperwork do I need to fill out if I am transferring from another High School?
In addition to the standard paperwork mentioned above, High School transfers must fill out a transfer form as well.  This is located on the forms page.  Please consult with the coaching staff for more information, as needed.

Does it cost to play for Nease basketball?

Each student-athlete participating in a sports program within St. Johns County pays a minimum fee to help support the sports programs, and their administrative and officiating costs.  In addition, running any program requires some a degree of financial commitment that help support the team's tournament schedule and a rigorous summer program.  However, with the assistance of the sponsorship program, and the work done by the Booster Club, Nease basketball has been able to keep costs to a relatively low figure.

How long is the season?
The season will begin with tryouts typically at the end of October and go through the playoffs which end in mid-February.  The Varsity team typically plays 20-25 games and the Junior Varsity plays 15-20.

Does the team play a tournament schedule as well as regular season games?
Yes, the Varsity team will play several preseason tournaments and a couple holiday tournaments to get ready for the rigors of the regular season.  The Junior Varsity team will play in a preseason tournament depending on available tournaments.

How can parents get involved?
The Booster Club is a great way to get involved and support the Nease basketball program.  The Booster Club helps organize outside team activities to include the Meal Program, and working the Concession Stand, among others.  If you are interested, please contact the Booster Club and see how you can contribute.
