We asked some members of our Falcon Family what they love about volunteering and this is what they had to say:
"I volunteer because I love the life of cheer, not to mention I love working with kids and being a role model and mentor. I enjoy teaching them the ins and outs of working together, building friendships, learning responsibilities, and most of all, learning about respect!" - Kim M.
"I played football in the SYFC for 6 years, most of them at Dunedin. After aging out and not being able to play high school football due to medical problems, I started coaching with some of my old coaches. It was a way for me to still participate in what I loved doing. I coached for 4 years and I have been on the board for 2 years. I enjoy volunteering and making connections with the kids. To teach them not only the game of football but also the fundamentals that they can use in life. It has taught me to be understanding and to help others...just because!" - Preston F. (President)
"People always ask me why I volunteer so much of my time to football & cheerleading. Could I spend my time doing other things? Absolutely. But this is where I want to be. My cheering coach in high school was (and still is) a very important person in my life! (Thank you Sheryl!) She was way more than 'just a coach'. So when given the opportunity, why wouldn't I want to offer that to another child? I love football. I love cheering. I love kids! Seeing the smile on the face of a cheerleader that just put their fear aside and went up in a stunt...Listening to little flag players tell me how fast they run in their new cleats...When a parent thanks you for being a role model to their child...When a child doesn't think they are capable and you teach them how to believe in themselves...When you're a football Mom and a car full of your son's stinky teammates is a regular thing? I do all of this because this is all so much bigger than football or cheerleading. When you have a chance to really make a difference in children's lives, it makes it all worth it!" - Jessica N.
We are very thankful to have such a great group of volunteers here at DJF!
