Thank you for signing up for the program.
I have had several requests for what equipment the boys need. We provide uniforms and practice penny. Here is a rundown of the equipment that boys wear for lacrosse:
· Lacrosse helmet with face guard: The helmet and guard protect a player's head and eyes. All helmets and face masks should be approved by the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE).
· Shoulder pads: As the name implies, these pads protect the shoulders.
· Elbow pads: These pads protect the elbows when players fall or get knocked down.
· Shoes: Any type of plastic cleats.
· Gloves: Gloves help players hold on to the stick and also protect their fingers and hands from the ball or other sticks.
· Cup and holder.
· Standard stick- 5th grade and above can use a full length long pole if they are playing defense. Although a standard stick is just as good at this age. Unless your son is reasonably good, I would not give them a 72” full long pole until 6th grade.
· Any standard mouth piece
So your list should be:
· Helmet
· Shoulder pads
· Elbow pads
· Gloves
· Stick
· Cleats
· Cup
· Mouth piece
My suggestion is to buy basic gear, no reason to buy expensive stuff at this age. Dick’s for example offers a package deal. Use the discount and save some more.
If you have an old stick that needs to be re-strung, we have a few high school kids that can do that for you cheap.
What girls wear- Girls in our clinic need goggles, a girls stick and mouth piece
