South Farmington plays two seasons, one in spring and one in the fall.

The spring season usually starts the first week of April (weather permitting) and runs through the end of June. The exceptions to this are the Boys 16U and Boys 18U leagues. These leagues do not start practicing until after the high school season has ended. The fall season starts after Labor Day and runs through early/mid October.

For baseball and softball, the spring season practice schedule will be set by the end of March. Your head coach will contact you to let you know the practice times assigned to your team. Teams are assigned two practice days per week for the month of April and can be any day from Monday-Saturday. Fall Ball season practices one day during the week, and practices typically start the last weekend in August, with games on Saturdays (and occasionally Friday evenings).

Tee Ball teams practice two days per week in April and have one practice and one game in May. In June they play two games per week and have no practices. The practice days are not decided until the end of March; your head coach will contact you with this information. Fall ball is one practice during the week, and one game on Saturdays.

The game schedule will be published during April. Teams are not assigned to certain game days, and your child’s team could play on any day, Monday through Saturday. Your head coach will forward you the game schedule as soon as it is available, and it will also be posted under the Team Central link on the website. Fall ball games are on Saturdays, and occasionally Friday evenings.

Opening Day for the spring season is the first Saturday in May, and games typically begin the week leading up to opening day based on weather. There is a parade and an Opening Day ceremony in the morning and games start around Noon. Fall ball games begin the week of Labor Day, with practices starting the week prior.

Picture Day is usually the second Saturday in May. Photos are taken of both teams and individuals, and photo packages are available for purchase. Your head coach will give you specific details in April. Even if you do not plan to purchase individual photos of your child, we ask that you still make every effort to attend Picture Day for the team photo that other players may want to purchase

Yes, a non-resident can play in any South Farmington recreational or “house” league in the spring and fall.

Registration is done through the website. If you do not currently have an account with South Farmington Little League, you can create one by clicking on the “Register” link from our homepage. You must first enter the parent/guardian information, then you can add your child as a participant. Once your child is added, a button saying "Programs Available" will appear next to their name. Click on that and follow the prompts to register for the current season. If you have more than one child, simply click "Add Participant" for each additional child. Once you create an account, you can use the same account each season. Please note that a valid birth certificate is REQUIRED the first time you register your child. You will be asked to upload a jpeg of the birth certificate at the time of registration. Once the date of birth has been verified by our Registrar, the file is permanently deleted (we do not keep copies on file).

Registration for the recreational spring season takes place from December 5th to March 16th each year. The cost for all baseball and softball leagues,  is $150 for the spring season.   Tee Ball (coed) is $75.. Registration for the recreational fall season runs from July 15 to August 12. The cost for fall ball is $100 for baseball and softball, and $50 for Tee Ball.

Yes. During the spring registration period (Feb 11- April 1), if you need to cancel your registration for whatever reason, you can receive a full refund minus the processing fees.   After April 1 there are NO refunds. An exception to this rule is for high school-aged players who are trying out for the high school team. If you register your child and he/she makes the high school team, you can receive a full refund  minus processing fee if requested by the week following tryouts. For fall ball, you can receive a full refund  (minus the processing fee) during the registration period (July 15th - August 12th ). Once registration closes, there are NO refunds.

The first time you register your child to play in the South Farmington league, you will be asked to upload a copy of your child’s birth certificate (or passport page with birth date). The birth date will be verified by our Registrar and the document will be automatically deleted. Once verified, there is no need to provide the document again. We DO NOT keep a copy of your child’s birth certificate on file.

Registration forms must be completed according to current grade level.  Divisions are subject to change based on registration.  The registration system will automatically assign the correct league for your child when you register. For the Fall Ball season, your child will play in the league that they are eligible to play in the following spring season.

The South Farmington board HIGHLY discourages kids playing in a league they are not eligible to play, however, we will consider exceptions on a case by case basis for early advancement for the spring season. Anyone wishing to advance MUST attend our Move-Up/Tryout date, usually scheduled in early March (see our Event Calendar for date, times, and location). Please print the Early Advancement Policy for Baseball or Softball and bring it on the scheduled date). "Move-Ups" are for players in Tee-ball, 8U baseball, and 8U and 10U softball that wish to advance to the next age level. "Tryouts" are for players in our Minors baseball division (ages 10 or 11) that wish to advance to our Majors division. Playing up in any other divisions not listed here is not allowed. Your child MUST attend the move-up/tryout scheduled date to be considered for early advancement, and must also be registered to play during the registration period (December 5th - March 16th). Please do not wait to register. If the league determines that your child is not ready to advance, you will receive a full refund if requested.

Yes, for the spring season, there is a spot on the registration form to request to play with another player for 8U and Tee Ball. We try to honor these requests as best as we can, however, we make no guarantees. In baseball, divisions above 8U will hold a draft, so friend and coach requests are not available. For the Fall Ball season, teams are assigned and not drafted, so coaches and teammates can be requested. However, we can not guarantee the requests, and we also reserve the right to adjust teams to maintain a competitive balance.

No, our 8U divisions (both Baseball and Softball) are kid/coach pitch.

South Farmington highly encourages that every player have their own batting helmet with FACE GUARD for sanitary reasons. However, batting helmets will be available for those that choose not to purchase their own. Depending on the age of your child, here is a list of additional equipment: Tee Ball – a baseball, softball or tee ball mitt; a bat is optional; non-metal cleats are optional Softball and Baseball - baseball or softball mitt; bat; non-metal cleats. Sliding shorts are strongly encouraged. Boys must wear an athletic supporter.

We abide by the bat rules set out in USA baseball. This standard applies to bats that are classified below the NCAA (college) and NFHS (high school) level of play. Any bat used in South Farmington Baseball and Softball (for games and practices) and tournaments must be a USABat approved bat with an official USA Baseball stamp. This includes all divisions from Tee Ball through Juniors (the Junior division is also allowed to use BBCOR bats). You can read more here.

To submit your name to become a Head Coach or Assistant Coach of a team, please log into your online registration account and follow the instructions to register as a volunteer. Background checks are required. The Head Coach of a team is responsible for overall team management, coaching, leadership and administrative tasks related to running the team. Duties include attending the draft (in applicable leagues), running practices, creating line-ups for games, and communicating with parents and players throughout the season. Assistant Coaches help the Head Coach during practices and games, and there can be more than one coach assisting with each team. A mandatory coaching clinic is required for all volunteer coaches each year.
