THANKS TO ALL OF THE VOLUNTEERS OF THE YEAR

2016 Recreational Coach of the Year

RUSTY EVENS

Teams: U7 Rock Stars / U10 Flying Squids

Years in Soccer: 3 years

Favorite Part of working in youth soccer: I love watching kids bond as a team and love seeing them improve

Best Memory of the past season: One particular day it had been raining most of the day, as practice time approached the rain stopped.  I still held practice but was worried how good it would be with the conditions (doubtful many would even come to practice.) Low and behold all 8 girls showed up for practice. The practice was one of my better practices, the girls really tried hard and listened well.  As we approached the end of practice I let the girls scrimmage, usually I’ll stop these scrimmages to allow a coaching point.  But this one particular scrimmage I noticed that these girls were her to COMPETE!  They held their shape well and all 8 girls were giving it their all.  It was physical, fast and well played.  I remember folding my arms and smiling, thinking “LOOK at these girls, they are GETTING AFTER IT.”

2016 Select coach of the year

MARK LUJAN

Teams: U12 Cosmos

Years in Soccer: 15+

Favorite Part of working in youth soccer: Watching the kids develop as players & their own person at every level they play.  Just as important as the development of the player, is the friendships that I’ve made with players and their families that go beyond their years on my teams.

Best memory of the past season: My best memory of the past season is when the old players and the new players all meshed as a team (with a new coaching staff) and their confidence in themselves and their teammates grew.

2016 Competitive Coach of the year

TONY TEITENBERG

Teams:
06 G Black

Years in youth soccer: 15 + years

Years in youth soccer: Your favorite part of working in youth soccer: Being around kids, having fun and enjoying playing the game. The fact they are eager to learn and then seeing the result of their hard work as they improve as soccer players.  For me, learning from coaching my three daughters, it knows we are helping to develop strength, confidence and high self-esteem in our young girls. Having my daughter Kendall coach alongside me has added to the fun.

Best memory of the past season: This year is a very hard working and determined group.  In the Jackson Hole tournament the last two games were against a very good FC Nova Team. We lost the 1st game and then battled their way into a penalty shootout that went over 10 kicks deep with multiple great saves (and a goalie’s bloody nose). We ended up winning but myself and parents were more proud of the effort and toughness they showed.

2016 Competitive Team Manager of the Year

BRANDY BORDERS

Team: 01G Premier

Years in youth soccer: 10 years

Favorite part of working in youth soccer: To watch a level of camaraderie develop between these girls is a beautiful thing

Best memory of the past season: I would definitely have to say the girls performing the Liverpool chant throughout the hotel at one of our tournaments. The girls were so happy and Carlos was so proud. Good times for sure!

2016 BLUE STAND AWARD

CARLOS CORREA

Teams: Former Associate Technical Director

Years in youth soccer: 17 + years

Favorite part of working in youth soccer: knowing that I was able to have an impact of helping young people become great members of their community and not just great soccer players

Best moment of the past 10+ years: To many to choose from..... volunteering for TOP Soccer, working the first one world soccer camp, and becoming a full time soccer coach a career
