What is the Travel program for U8's?
In the spring we open the Travel program to the U8 age group. The travel program is designed for those who are excelling and are ready for the next stage of their development.
The program has a paid, professional coach and a higher level of competition in practices and games than our traditional U8 program. Teams are supported by volunteer assistant coaches and a team manager and play against other U9 local teams at the same level.
For the spring season, DASC will enter a boys U8 team and a girls U8 team into CPYSL in addition to the pre-travel program.
The tryout for the travel teams will be on Thursday November 21st, 7 – 8 PM girls and December 5th, 7 – 8 PM for boys at the Yellow Breeches sports center, 700 Shawnee court, New Cumberland. The fee to try out is a $10.
What happens at tryouts for travel teams?
Players will be assessed for their soccer ability and placed in teams that allow for the most competitive composition. The tryout will include technical and skill exercises for dribbling, passing, shooting as well as small sided games. Scores will be assigned a score from 1-4 on various aspects of the game.
Players will be assigned:
1. To the Travel team to compete in the travel league
2. To a Pre-travel team .
3. Assessors may feel the player will be better served in the U8 program and that will be conveyed to the parent after assessment.
What is Travel & Pre-travel?
Travel will play in a U9 Division in CPYSL. CPYSL is travel league consisting of other local clubs. The roster is 10 – 12 players and the team will play 7 v 7 soccer.
Pre-travel will play against other U8 local teams at the same level. This past Fall included - HMMS, Fusion, CASA, Penn Legacy, Keystone & Panthers. The rosters will be 8 – 12 players and the team/s will play 7 v 7 soccer.
How much will my child play?
Teams will be scheduled for 7 or 8 league games. DASC follows USYS’s guidance on playing time, meaning players will play at least half of each game. Players will be introduced to a number of positions over the season so to give them a range of different experiences.
When do they practice?
Practices are held twice a week. Practice schedules vary by travel team.
When will the game be?
Travel - Saturday unless rescheduled.
Pre-Travel - Saturday or Sunday based on opposition availability.
What is cost?
The program fee is $140
Are there additional costs?
Yes, parents in the Travel program will need to purchase a DASC Travel uniform. Teams may also want to enter Tournaments, which would require additional fees.
What do I do next?
Players should register for the program on our website and will receive a reminder prior to the tryout.
What if my child can't make the tryout?
This needs to be approved according to our standing rules. The club will schedule individual or small group assessments to ensure players are placed in the program appropriately.
