FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUTHB REBELS CHEERLEADING

Who are the HB Rebels?

HB Rebels Cheerleading is a recreational youth program teaching and building on the fundamentals of cheerleading with a focus on safety, good sportsmanship, teamwork and fun. This program is designed to develop physically active, well rounded youth while emphasizing the importance of education, teamwork, supportive relationships, good citizenship and outstanding sportsmanship.  We will strive to help our athletes build self confidence and trusting relationships. We plan to engage with the school system and partner with the already established cheerleading team(s) in an effort to build relationships and help athletes prepare to transition into the higher level school cheerleading programs.

The HB Rebels will participate in cheerleading competitions but will not be required to cheer at any sporting events.

How do I sign my child up to participate in HN Rebels Pop Warner?

How much does it cost for a child to join a Pop Warner program?

Registration fees for this new cheer only program costs $250.00.  Uniforms will be loaned to athletes for the season and cheer bow will be provided.  Parents will be responsible for purchasing white cheer shoes and no-show white socks.
Portion of the registration fee will be given to the team to offset the costs of teambuilding, competition and various other activities.

No.  There are no tryouts as this is a youth recreational program.  Everyone makes a team.

Is it safe for my child to participate in Pop Warner?

While injury is always a risk in contact sport or athletic activity, Pop Warner has a medical advisory committee of neurosurgeons, sports medicine professionals, pediatricians and researchers that steer athlete safety protocols for football and cheer & dance. There is mandated protocol for any athlete who suffers a suspected head injury to receive medical clearance from a medical professional trained in concussion evaluation and management before returning to practice. All Pop Warner coaches are required to get appropriate and relevant training and certifications each season.

When does the cheer season start?

Our cheer season starts August 1.

What is the time commitment for athletes and families?

We follow Pop Warner's official start date in August and the cheer season can run until mid-December depending on the success of our teams. Summer practices may be up to 4 days/week with a limit of 10 hours each week.  After Labor Day, practice is limited to 6 hours each week which may be 2 to 3 days a week depending on age division.  Since we are a cheer only program, there will be no required football games to cheer for the season.

Where is practice held and what are the hours?

Our practice locations are located within our community.  Most practices will be held at the Middle School or High School and are based on availability.  We have the opportunity to practice outdoors as well as indoors for the beginning of the season.  Practice hours are generally 2–3-hour blocks (this includes set up/clean up and time allowed for breaks) and are usually held between the hours of 5:00 to 8:00 PM depending on division.  Saturday morning practice is generally in the 2-hour block held between the hours of 8 AM to noon, again depending on age division.

What is required for the first day of practice?

Bike shorts, fitted t-shirt or tank top, tied sneakers, towel or yoga mat, FULL water bottle and a positive attitude. If any paperwork is missing, it will be collected on this day as well.

How do I sign up to coach or volunteer with the Rebels?

It takes many volunteers to run a successful youth program, especially a new community recreational program.  The Rebels offer various positions, which are found on our website under registration.  If you don’t see what you are interested in, please email us and we can discuss opportunities.

.

What is required to coach or volunteer?

All coaches and volunteers – regardless of position – are required to pass a national background check. This is required of all individuals who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to or contact with youth participants. All cheer coaches are required to obtain YCADA certification as well as Pop Warner specific safety training.
