2026 Softball Programs - Spring

**Discover Our Little League Softball Programs!**

We're excited to introduce you to our comprehensive Little League Softball registration options, catering to a wide range of age groups and skill levels. Whether your child is taking their first steps in softball or is a seasoned player, we have a program tailored just for them. Check out the key details for each of our four distinct divisions:

Evaluations:
Player evaluations are mandatory for players ages 8-12 or those interested in playing up a division. They are used to determine the right division for each player and to ensure teams are rostered evenly. All players will be placed on teams.
Evaluations are typically mid-February to early March. Dates and times will be announced when they are finalized.

**1. Coach Pitch (Ages 6-8):**
Our Coach Pitch division is designed for our youngest athletes, typically aged 6 to 8. In this program, coaches will work closely with the players to teach the fundamentals of softball in a supportive and encouraging environment. It's the perfect introduction to the sport, emphasizing skill development, teamwork, and, most importantly, fun!

**2. Minors (Ages 8*-11):**
The Minors division is a great choice for players aged 8* to 10, where they can continue to build their softball skills. Coaches will focus on refining their abilities, introducing more advanced game strategies, and nurturing their passion for the sport. This division offers an exciting transition for those looking to advance their softball journey. At this level, pitching is introduced in a modified player pitch level for the first half of the season. League age 11 year olds are eligible for the Minors division if a parent requests play at a lower level, or if during evaluations, it is determined that safety could be a potential issue playing at the majors level. *League age 8 year olds who have played one season at the coach pitch level are allowed to be evaluated to play at this level.

*Play-up Guidelines: Individuals who meet the following criteria are eligible to be considered for playing up at the next level:
1) Played at least 1 year at the current age appropriate level.
2) Attend an evaluation session for coaches to decide if child has the ability to play at the higher level.
      - All players will need to be evaluated. Evaluation information to be noted at a later date.
3) There must be a need for players in the league in which the players want to play up into. If multiple players need to be moved up, they will be selected in order according to skill level until available slots are filled.

**3. Majors (Ages 11-12):**
The Majors division is for players aged 11 & 12 and is perfect for those seeking a competitive edge. Here, players will refine their softball techniques and deepen their understanding of the game. Our coaches will provide specialized training to help them excel while fostering a sense of teamwork and sportsmanship. **All players will need to be evaluated. Evaluation information to be noted at a later date. **

**4. Junior Level Teams (Ages 13-16):**
For older players aged 13 to 16, our Junior Level Teams offer a more advanced softball experience. This division places a strong emphasis on skill mastery and competitive play, preparing young athletes for high school-level competition. Joining a Junior Level Team provides an excellent opportunity for continued growth and development in softball.

No matter your child's age or skill level, we have a program tailored to their needs and aspirations. Join us in nurturing their love for the game, fostering lifelong friendships, and providing a memorable softball experience. Register today and be a part of our community dedicated to promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and the joy of playing softball.

What Division is Right for My Child?

WHICH DIVISION IS RIGHT FOR MY CHILD?

Children from 4 to 14 years old can be Little Leaguers®. With several age-specific divisions, there are fun, competitive baseball and softball opportunities for both boys and girls who join East Lyme Little League.

But, before players can put on their Little League uniform, they need to determine their league age. To learn a player’s league age, Little League uses an Age Determination Date, with both Little League Baseball® and Little League Softball® having distinct, different dates.

To find a child’s League Age for the upcoming season, use the League-Age Calculator.

Little League’s Baseball and Softball divisions do have slight differences regarding the age classification of players. Based on the number of players registering to play in a given season, each local league has the option to adjust the age groupings of the players in their league, in accordance with Little League rules and regulations. This allows all participants, from Tee Ball and Coach Pitch to Juniors, to have a fun, meaningful experience.

We strongly recommend that you register your child for the appropriate division based on the player's current skill level.

Please see below for further descriptions of our different divisions.
