TEAM PRACTICES:

·       House Practice – 1-to-1.5-hour practice/1x a week in Reston or Herndon

·       Select Practice – 1-1.5-hour practice/up to 2x a week in Reston or Herndon

Based on gym availability, weeknight practices may start as early as 5:30pm and go as late as 9:00pm. Times are dependent on multiple factors, including permits, coach availability and space availability. During registration clearly indicate days available for practice (coach and/or athlete), to prevent schedule conflicts. We will do our best to work with your family’s schedule.

GAMES:
Regular season matches will begin early April 2024 and continue until May 18th on Saturdays and potentially Sundays. The Select season may go longer depending on the other teams in our league. House matches are 1 hour long; Select matches are 1.5 hours.

PLAYING TIME ON MATCH DAY/LEAGUE RULES:

House: some league rules differ from “traditional” volleyball rules to foster growth and development based on grade level.  House league requires athletes to have equal playing time – through continuous rotation or each player play at least 2 full sets out of 3 sets played.

Select does not have an equal playing time policy and games are match play (best 2 out of 3).

League rules will be provided to the coaches and will be published for families to access prior to the first match.

EQUIPMENT:
Reston Volleyball will provide team jerseys once the teams are formed. Players provide their own shorts, socks, kneepads (optional) and gym shoes.

COACHES:
Please consider volunteering to coach volleyball! We rely 100% on volunteers to coach teams. Volunteering to coach is not only needed to keep costs affordable, but it is also a significant part of our program’s structure, our athlete’s, therefore our community’s success. All head coaches selected may have one athlete play for free. Potential adult coaches and adult assistant coaches are subject to a background check. All High School aged coaches can fill volunteer hours. If you or you have a friend or family member over 18 interested in head coaching, or a high school student aged 15 and over interested in assistant coaching,  please register here.

Training for coaches will be provided through virtual meetings, clinics, links, and documentation. Reston Hoops will inform coaches and assistant coaches about training opportunities and options.

REFEREES/GAME DAY VOLUNTEERS:
Sign up to be a paid referee in our Referee Registration portal. Prospective officials must be at least 15 years old and have prior volleyball experience. at the start of any given season to be eligible to referee.

About 2 hours of preseason (pre-match) training will be required.

VOLUNTEERS:

Reston Hoops is run by unpaid volunteers, except for referees. Volunteers are always needed. Examples of volunteers needed are match day volunteers and age group coordinators as well as behind the scenes. These are unpaid positions but are much-needed and much-appreciated roles. If you would like to volunteer in another capacity other than coaching, please contact to our volleyball commissioner  - [email protected]

CANCELLATIONS:

Practices and games sometimes are cancelled by Fairfax County due to weather or special activities. Countywide cancellations are posted on Fairfax County television stations, or you may call the County sports Weather Hotline at 703-324-5264. We will do our best to inform you as far in advance as possible if it affects your practice or game, but please give us the grace that there are some unforeseen situations where the information is not provided to us to relay them to you.

RESIDENCE:
Athletes who play in our league mostly reside in Fairfax County, however all are welcome. Players who reside outside of Fairfax County are required to pay an additional Out-of-County Fee assessed by the county ($50 as of 7/2023).

Thank you for visiting us! We hope to see you on the court soon.
