LITTLE LEAGUE - AGES 4-12

Keeping youth active and having fun!  SBRELL is part of District 4 for Little League.  Our T-ball teams play locally with each other, while the mini, minor, and major divisions compete against other Little League teams in the local area.  The following divisions exist in the SBRELL program:

T-BALL

Softball players ages 4-6 learn hitting and fielding fundamentals in a supportive team environment. Young athletes hit the ball from a batting tee, which is height-adjusted for a level swing, batting in order through the line-up for the entire game.

Practices are typically once during the week for an hour, with a game on Saturdays that is an hour. All practices and games are local in South Berwick or Rollinsford.

Fun, friendships, as well as learning the most fundamental aspects of the game, are the primary objectives of this league.

Parents may request that their player be on the team of a friend, but it is not guaranteed.

MINI

This is a developmental league, designed primarily for softball players ages 7-8. The Mini’s division is Coach Pitch; this provides more hittable balls at the plate and more action in the field.

It is designed to build a solid foundation for becoming a successful softball player.  The focus of this division is introducing basic softball concepts such as catching, throwing, hitting, batter safety, base running, fielding, and rules of the game with special emphasis on having fun, working hard, and being a good sport.

The rules are modified to increase player success and confidence and give each kid an equal opportunity to participate and succeed.  At this level, athletes are learning how to play defense at multiple infield positions and how to make outs. Players get 6 strikes from the coach. Either each team plays until three outs are made or the offensive team scores five runs, whichever comes first.

Younger players, who wish to play in the Mini’s division, may email [email protected] to be evaluated to play in this division. The decision to allow younger players to play in the division is based on multiple factors including: team availability, player safety, volunteer status of parents/family members, and the impact to both the T Ball and Rookie division standards of play.

Fun and developing fundamentals are the primary objectives at this level. Parents may request that their player be on the team of a friend, but it is not guaranteed.

Between practices and games, most Mini’s teams have two to three events a week.

MINOR

Recommended for Softball players ages 9-10. Players build and refine their fundamental skills while beginning to understand game strategy and teamwork. Rules are structured to develop Softball players and encourage competition, under the overarching umbrella of having fun and building friendships. Players play multiple positions, although sometimes this is limited due to safety concerns.

All players ages 9-12 must go to evaluations so that teams that are as skill neutral as possible are formed. Unfortunately, requests to play on a friend’s team are not granted at this age.

Players who are younger than league age 9 can email [email protected] to be evaluated to play in this division.

Between practices and games, most Minors teams have three events a week.

MAJOR

This division is recommended for Softball players ages 11-12. All players ages 9-12 must go to evaluations so that teams that are as skill neutral as possible are formed.

This league is age appropriate competitive. Generally, this means that teams are competing to win, but are dual focused on developing players as people, athletes and Softball players. Teamwork, dedication, friendships and camaraderie are encouraged. We have players that are their first year playing, as well as players who play in elite travel programs: All of them have fun!

Between practices and games, most teams have three events a week, although some weeks may be more.

*** Note: During the season there could be make-up games/events due to weather.  We do our best to adhere to our aligned scheduling commitments, but at times there could be more events.  We also try to reschedule with 2-3 day notification. ***
