Coaching Little League is a choice you’ve made to serve the children and families in your community, and for that, Stroh Youth League says, “Thank you!”

We realize it’s not easy to volunteer your time, even if you have a child in the program, or on your team. The challenges of being a coach, however, are rewarded by the sharing of fun experiences, and forging positive memories that will last a lifetime.    Don’t minimize, or take for granted, the impact that you, and the thousands of Little League coaches like you around the world, have on your players throughout the season. Your willingness to see everyone equally and treat them with respect goes well beyond their ability to hit, run, or throw. It’s also important to realize that your influence goes beyond the regular season.    As coaches, you are the welcoming committee. Whether you have coached for several seasons, or if this is your first year, make yourself available to the people in your community. Make the choice to give of yourself, and remember that Little League is about making the games fun, Little League is unique, and its mission is easily understood if parents, coaches and players all believe they are there for the greater good.

How to become a Coach

If you would like to become a coach there are many ways to do that.

  • The simplest way is that when registering your child you will be prompted to volunteer for the position.  If you skipped this part simply log back into your profile and "apply" for the position.
  • You can let a previous coach or board member know as well.  There is contact info in the "about" tab of this website to find those people.
  • If teams have already been created and the position is filled you can always talk to your child's coach about helping.  As a general rule more hands for practice is better to ensure that the participants are active for the entirety of the practice.

Advanced Coaching

The older age groups tend to be hardest to coach because of the ability gap that some teams can face.  Below are a few ideas to help keep everyone engaged and included.

The main goal at each practice should be that every participant is busy.  Creating stations for different drills with supporting coaching staff will ensure that standing around is not an option!

Pitching drills
Hitting drills
Fun games
Infield/Outfield/Throwing/Running drills

This list is in no way the only drills available, just a starting point.  Doing quick online searches can also find drills more specific to any needs that you may see.
